The Manager, Data Governance will play a pivotal leadership role in establishing, implementing, and maintaining a robust data governance framework within the Canadian healthcare sector. This role is responsible for leading a dedicated team of analytical professionals, ensuring the integrity, security, and strategic utilization of healthcare data across the organization.

This role will collaborate with cross-functional teams—including IT, compliance, clinical operations, and senior executives—to drive enterprise-wide data governance initiatives. They will oversee the development and execution of policies, monitor data quality and compliance, and foster a data-driven culture.

How you will make an impact

Data Governance Strategy

  • Develop and oversee the implementation of a comprehensive data governance strategy that aligns with organizational goals and regulatory standards.
  • Lead, mentor, and manage a team of data analysts.
  • Establish and enforce enterprise-wide data governance policies, standards, and best practices.
  • Work closely with senior leadership to prioritize data governance initiatives and allocate resources effectively.
  • Define and track key performance indicators (KPIs) to assess the effectiveness of data governance efforts.
  • Provide regular updates, insights, and recommendations to executives and key stakeholders.

Leadership

  • Establish clear performance expectations aligned with business objectives, providing regular coaching and feedforward to drive execution excellence.
  • Build team capabilities through stretch assignments, coaching, and growth opportunities.
  • Promote a culture of accountability and continuous improvement.

Data Quality Oversight

  • Define and implement data quality metrics, validation processes, and data standards.
  • Identify and monitor data quality issues and work with relevant teams to resolve them.
  • Oversee the development and maintenance of data dictionaries and business rules to ensure consistent data definitions and usage across the  organization.

Data Security, Privacy and Compliance

  • Working closely with IT and cybersecurity teams, establish and enforce data security protocols to protect sensitive healthcare data from unauthorized access and  breaches.
  • Ensure compliance with Canadian healthcare regulations, including PIPEDA, PHIPA, and other relevant data protection laws.
  • Conduct regular audits and assessments to ensure adherence to data governance policies.
  • Monitor changes in regulatory requirements and update data governance policies accordingly.

Stakeholder Engagement & Change Management

  • Serve as the initial point of contact for data governance across the organization.
  • Build strong relationships with business leaders, IT, compliance, and operational teams to align data governance efforts with business objectives.
  • Develop and deliver training programs to promote data governance awareness and best practices among employees.
  • Drive change management initiatives to embed data governance principles into business operations.

Technology & Process Optimization

  • Evaluate and implement data governance tools, technologies, and automation solutions to enhance data management.
  • Provide technical and analytical support for teams using data governance platforms.

What you’ll bring to our team

Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Management, Data Science, Healthcare Administration, or a related field.
  • A master's degree is preferred.

Experience and Skills

  • 5+ years of experience in data governance, data management, or a related role within the healthcare sector.
  • Strong knowledge of Canadian healthcare regulations and data protection laws.
  • Proven experience in developing and implementing data governance frameworks and policies.
  • Extensive experience with analytical and visualization software to evaluate data quality, identify gaps and recommend improvements
  • Familiarity with data governance tools and technologies used but not limited for data quality, data catalogs, metadata management and master data management
  • Familiarity with data architectures including databases and cloud platforms
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage and influence stakeholders at all levels.
  • High attention to detail and strong organizational skills with a strong focus on data accuracy, integrity and quality.
  • Proactive and self-motivated, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Strong ethical standards and a commitment to maintaining the confidentiality of sensitive healthcare data.
  • Adaptable and open to change, with a willingness to continuously learn and improve.
