Humanitas promuove la salute, la prevenzione e la diagnosi precoce attraverso attività ambulatoriali e servizi avanzati e innovativi.We are looking for a Data Scientist to join our interdisciplinary clinical and research team for an innovative project focused on analysis of clinical data to improve the management of patient with infectious diseases and sepsis, and optimize medical treatment.
Your main contribution will be focused on applying advanced data science and machine learning techniques to structured and unstructured data from the electronic health records. You will be working closely with doctors and clinical researchers, with expertise in data analysis, including intensivists from intensive care unit and infectious disease specialists, to optimize antibiotic usage, improve patient outcomes, and mitigate the risk of antimicrobial resistance. Continuous interdisciplinary collaboration will ensure the validation of hypotheses, with the primary research goal of leveraging data-driven methodologies to address critical clinical questions.
Our research team is committed to leverage data to recognize sepsis and optimize antibiotic use, ultimately enhancing patient safety. The successful candidate will play a key role in developing algorithms designed to assist clinicians in identifying clinical patterns and clinical decision making.
As part of our research group, you will be working at IRCCS Humanitas Research Hospital, one of Italy’s leading institutions in the biomedical research pioneering data science and artificial intelligence applications to healthcare. You will be immersed in an academic research environment at Humanitas University, home to a young and rapidly growing data science community. This dynamic research ecosystem includes not only clinical and preclinical researchers but also international experts in data science applied to healthcare and biological data, such as Prof. Giuseppe Jurman and Prof. Charlotte KY Ng.
Responsibilities
As a Data Scientist in this position, you will:
• Query and retrieve data from structured databases
• Perform exploratory data analysis on clinical data
• Explore patterns and associations from complex clinical data
• Apply time series analysis and advanced machine learning to create predictive algorithms based on electronic health records, microbiological and laboratory data, and clinical parameters
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams: work with clinicians, infectious disease specialists, and microbiology to ensure clinical applicability of AI models
• Contribute to impactful research: participate in a retrospective Electronic Health Record study and assist in designing applications of developed AI models
• Publish and present findings: share results through high-impact publications and international conferences
Qualifications

Mandatory Requirements
• Master’s degree in a STEM discipline
• +1 year of experience in a data science related role
Soft skills
• Excellent analytical and problem solving skills
• Good story-telling techniques, to communicate with impact your results to stakeholders without your expertise
• Excellent team-working capabilities
• Strong self-motivation and proactive approach
• Ability to work autonomously and meet deadlines
• Curiosity and ability of stepping outside your comfort zone
Hard Skills
• Strong scripting and programming skills in Python
• Experience with data science python frameworks (e.g. tensorflow, pytorch, scikit-learn, pandas, numpy) and visualization frameworks (e.g. plotly, seaborn, matplotlib)
• Knowledge of SQL
• Statistical knowledge
• Strong experience with pre-processing and exploratory data analysis
• Experience with deep learning techniques such as RNNs or NLP is a plus
