Team Leader, Data Management

Your day to day:

As the DBA Team Lead, you will be responsible for managing and optimizing Oracle databases to ensure high performance, availability, and security across Vodafone’s IT infrastructure. This role involves leading a team of database administrators, distributing workloads, and monitoring performance to meet SLAs. 

You will oversee the design, implementation, and maintenance of database solutions, ensuring smooth transitions from development to production while optimizing existing architectures. The role requires hands-on troubleshooting for performance incidents, proactive database monitoring, and the automation of recurring tasks to improve operational efficiency. 

Collaboration is key, as you will liaise with internal stakeholders, assess new service requests, and align database strategies with business needs. Additionally, you will play a critical role in developing the team’s technical capabilities, providing coaching, and ensuring adherence to industry standards . 

This is a dynamic role that requires a mix of technical expertise, leadership, and strategic planning to drive continuous improvement and innovation in Vodafone’s database environment

• Database Performance & Optimization: Ensure high-performance database infrastructure through tuning, maintenance, and proactive monitoring. Investigate incidents and implement solutions to enhance stability. 

• Team Leadership & Coordination: Lead and mentor a team of DBA specialists, providing coaching, feedback, and performance reviews while managing workloads and shift schedules. 

• Incident Management & Continuous Support: Allocate resources for issue resolution, troubleshoot critical problems, and ensure compliance with SLAs for system availability and security. 

• Automation & Development: Develop scripts and automation tools to optimize database operations, reduce manual effort, and improve efficiency. 

• Stakeholder Collaboration & Compliance: Engage with business stakeholders to assess new service requests, ensure adherence to security (SOX, ITIL), and drive continuous service improvement. 

With these skills you are a great candidate:

• Extensive Database Expertise: Over 5 years of experience in IT infrastructure management with advanced knowledge of MSSQL and SYBASE databases, SQL tuning, database administration Azure and other cloud providers, database migrations. 

• Technical Proficiency: Proficiency in T-SQL, UNIX/Linux/Windows shell scripting, MSSQL clusters, and backup/recovery tools. 

• Problem-Solving & Performance Optimization: Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability to resolve complex database issues under tight deadlines. 

• Team & Project Leadership: Experience in leading teams, coordinating distributed environments, and managing multiple priorities effectively. 

• Service Management & Compliance: Familiarity with ITIL, ISO20000, and security best practices to ensure database integrity and regulatory compliance.
