We are looking for someone who comes from a strong business intelligence and data engineering background. The Senior Data Engineer role will ensure that no days will be the same and there will always be exciting tasks to work on - from the usual data modelling, ingestion, transformation, orchestration, visualisation to the more advanced machine learning experimentation, data cataloging and data governance.

This is a 12-month fixed-term maternity leave cover.

What you'll get to do

• Collaborate with architects and principal engineers and provide technical expertise in selecting new or improving existing data platforms
• Work with Platform, Architecture, and Security teams to ensure data platform solutions are designed for performance, security, durability and scalability
• Participate in developing and implementing proof-of-concept/experiment projects to validate new data/database models and data platform solutions.
• Work with Engineering, Product Management and other business departments to achieve data extract, load, transform, analysis and visualisation needs
• Provide technical guidance to team members comprised of SQL developers, BI Developers, DBAs, data engineers and data/business analysts
• Develop new or improve existing complex SQL, PowerShell, Python, and Spark scripts used in both SQL-based and non-SQL-based OLTP and OLAP systems
• Build, run, and optimise the data pipelines and deployment pipelines
• Advocate for SQL and data engineering best practices
• Participate in an on-call roster

What you'll bring

• A strong understanding of data warehouse, data lake, data lakehouse, and modern data engineering and the ability to communicate such.
• Experience working in an agile software company.
• Experience in the traditional data warehousing approach.
• Experience or knowledge in modern/cloud data warehousing solutions is a plus.
• Experience or knowledge in Data Vault 2.0 is a plus.
• Experience or familiarity in NoSQL Database (Cosmos DB, MongoDB, etc.) is a plus.
• Experience with modern practices and techniques (e.g. infrastructure automation, continuous integration, continuous delivery) is a plus.
• Keen interest in what’s happening in the data platform space (SQL, NoSQL, Data Warehouse/Data Lake). We don’t expect you to have hands-on experience with leading-edge technologies, but it would be good to understand how you keep up to date with any new trends.
