Wells Fargo is seeking a Technology Director to lead the development and delivery of generative AI-driven applications for internal use. This role will be within Enterprise Functions Technology (EFT) and will oversee a high-performing agile software team and play a pivotal role in designing and implementing solutions safely utilizing large language models (LLMs). The successful candidate will have a strong technical background, proven leadership experience, and a focus on delivering safe, accurate, and user-centric solutions in an enterprise environment.

In this role, you will:
Lead a talented engineering team building Large Language Model services that support powerful capabilities for internal Wells Fargo users, with a focus on agentic operational services, prompt engineering, observability, eval-driven development processes, feedback and tuning mechanisms, and safety guardrails.
Focus on delivering commitments aligned to enterprise strategic priorities.
Build support for strategies with business and technology leaders
Guide development of actionable roadmaps and plans.
Identify opportunities and strategies for continuous improvement of software engineering practices.
Provide oversight to software craftsmanship, security, availability, resilience, and scalability of solutions developed by the teams or third-party providers.
Identify financial management and strategic resourcing.
Set risk management guidelines and partner with stakeholders to implement key risk initiatives.
Develop strategies for hiring engineering talent.
Lead implementation of projects and encourage engineering innovation.
Collaborate and influence all levels of professionals including more experienced managers.
Lead team to achieve objectives.
Interface with external agencies, regulatory bodies or industry forums.
Manage allocation of people and financial resources for Technology Strategic Leadership.
Develop and guide a culture of talent development to meet business objectives and strategy.
Required Qualifications:
8+ years of Technology Strategic Leadership experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education.
4+ years of management or leadership experience.
1+ years of leading Generative AI or "Classical" AI initiatives experience.
Desired Qualifications:
Strong focus on Generative AI safety and accuracy.
In-depth knowledge of retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) and agentic workflows in generative AI applications.
Strong experience collaborating with product and business stakeholders to deliver valuable and user-centric solutions.
Financial industry experience or familiarity with regulatory and compliance requirements.
Demonstrated ability to balance technical excellence with business priorities.
Proven ability to build and lead high-performing, agile software teams.
Demonstrated success in recruiting, developing, and retaining engineering talent.
Expertise in test-driven development methodologies.
Ability to manage complex technology projects and deliver on time in an enterprise environment.

Compensation for this role ranges from $207,900 to $431,900 depending on skills and expertise.
