Title:

Radar Systems Engineer

KBR is seeking a Radar Systems Engineer to join our team in Dahlgren, VA supporting our operations at the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Dahlgren Division (NSWCDD) Electromagnetic and Sensor Systems Department Radar Systems Division B40 and B0.

In this role, you will provide sensor systems expertise across the entire acquisition lifecycle—from concept exploration to sustainment—for US Navy (USN) and US Marine Corps (USMC) radar systems. These systems include the Dual Band Radar (DBR), Ground Air Task Oriented Radar (G/ATOR), AN/SPY-1, AN/SPY-6, Enhanced Radar Data Display System (ERDDS), Enhanced Coherent Data Collection System (ECDCS0), Littoral Combat Ship (LCS), and others. Your primary focus will be Electromagnetic Environmental Effects (E3).

Responsibilities:

  • Requirements development, software verification, system integration support, antenna design, radar performance testing and analyses, signal processing, and radar operations support.
  • Design radar system architectures, develop operational concepts, and create radar processing algorithms. Define and decompose system, hardware, and software requirements, ensuring seamless integration into systems.
  • Perform statistical analysis of radar system performance, using both real and simulated data to assess capabilities.
  • Build and refine MATLAB, C++ and Python simulations to test radar concepts and processing techniques.
  • Perform test and evaluation activities, including laboratory testing plans, new technology evaluation documents, usability engineering documents, and laboratory testing of SW/MW test articles developed.
  • Research and develop systems/subsystem specification documents, including compliance, completeness, and consistency of component and interface requirements with current and evolving system requirements, information architectures, and systems.
  • Support signal processing activities, including waveform, clutter management, and electronic protection development; design electronic compatibility into systems and supporting data collection and analysis to determine the effectiveness of signal processing systems.
  • Engage in live radar testing, analyze recorded data, and identify issues that impact mission requirements.
  • Explore advanced radar performance using detailed physics-based simulations. Use simulations and small-scale tests to evaluate the performance of existing systems and model future designs.
  • Develop algorithms to optimize radar performance, leveraging both real-world and modeled data.
  • Apply cutting-edge signal and data processing techniques, including machine learning, to large datasets to create novel solutions.
  • Conduct rigorous testing and troubleshooting of radar systems to ensure optimal functionality and performance.
  • Prepare clear and detailed technical documentation and reports, presenting progress and findings to stakeholders.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams to ensure radar systems integrate effectively with other components. Collaborate within a dynamic and innovative development environment, supporting a range of R&D efforts and working with both internal teams and external customers.

Basic Qualifications:

Clearance: Active Secret Clearance required. Must be a US Citizen.

Education: BS/BA Degree

Experience:  At least two years of experience in radar system engineering, design, analysis, or radar software development. Proven ability to perform complex calculations and apply principles to assess advanced radar systems concepts, evaluate specifications, and perform system integration.

Skills:

  • In-depth understanding of object-oriented programming principles.
  • Solid knowledge of radar hardware (e.g., antennas, ADC/DAC, mixers, amplifiers).
  • Advanced Proficiency in MATLAB, C++, and Python for radar system simulations.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Relevant certifications such as Certified LabVIEW Developer (CLD), or certification in radar systems engineering are a plus.
  • Expertise in E3, including understanding the impact of electromagnetic environments on radar system performance, is HIGHLY desired.
  • Experience providing on-site support for radar field testing, including integration with shipboard or vehicle-mounted systems.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to effectively present complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Experience in preparing and delivering briefings to senior leadership and program stakeholders.
  • Experience managing complex engineering projects or serving in a lead engineering role for radar systems development, testing, and integration.
  • Experience with complex radar system design, integration, and testing, particularly in operational military environments.
  • Advanced Signal Processing: Experience with advanced signal and data processing techniques, including machine learning and artificial intelligence for radar systems

Scheduled Weekly Hours: 40 hours/week.
