The Hartford is looking for a Manager, Software Engineering. The position is accountable for people and technical leadership for an Agile Scrum team on the Core Claims Agile Release Train. As Manager, Software Engineering, the position will be responsible to manage team(s) of cross-functional resources, provide overall technical direction to delivery teams, monitor and manage financial budgets of software engineering teams, develop partnerships with all key stake holders on overall solution delivery and optimize team throughput to ensure effective delivery of customer focused solutions. Position will also bring experience with data science and data driven Gen AI solutions and help provide key insight and leadership on using emerging technologies to deliver innovative solutions. 

 

This role will have a Hybrid work schedule, with the expectation of working in an office location (Hartford, CT; Chicago, IL; Columbus, OH; and Charlotte, NC) 3 days a week (Tuesday through Thursday).

 

Responsibilities:

  • Accountable for end-to-end delivery, actively collaborating with team members to drive team outcomes
  • Be the go-to technical leader for Claims software applications, leveraging your deep knowledge in technologies, applications, integration, interfaces, and business domains
  • Collaborate to identify integration opportunities across tools, driving efficiencies and innovation.
  • Hire, train, and mentor team members, fostering growth opportunities and maintaining high morale and engagement.
  • Oversee technical deliverables, mentor junior developers, and enforce best practices. Promote experimentation and continual improvement through Innovation Sprints and technical debt reduction. Develop and promote best practices for continuous improvement.
  • Lead teams while also performing hands-on coding to stay connected with the technical aspects of the projects.
  • Establish performance goals and career paths for the team, providing timely coaching and feedback.
  • Provides significant input to influence application solution architecture & help establish software engineering standards and guidelines for the organization
     

Qualifications:

  • Candidates must be authorized to work in the US without company sponsorship. The company will not support the STEM OPT I-983 Training Plan endorsement for this position.
  • 7 + years of experience in application software solution development. Collaboration across teams, decision making, conflict resolution and relationship building.
  • Manage a team or teams of cross functional resources operating in agile scrum methodology.
  • Tech Savvy: Passionate about staying current with technology trends, experimenting with modern technologies, and participating in internal tech communities.
  • AI : Experience with Gen AI solutions: AWS Bedrock, Sagemaker, or Amazon Q.
  • Technical Skills: Strong understanding of Object-Oriented design, Java, front-end technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, JSON, UI/UX Frameworks, Angular/React), and cloud platforms (preferably AWS), Python, Spring Boot, BDD Test Automation, Restful APIs, Relational & NoSQL databases.
  • DevOps Knowledge: Experience with continuous integration and DevOps tools (GitHub, Jenkins, UDeploy, Rally, SonarQube).
  • Strategic Thinker: Skilled in strategic planning, process analysis, and executing architecture-based solutions like Cloud, SaaS, and open-source frameworks.

  • Agile Practitioner: Experience with Agile &  Scrum methodologies
  • Soft Skills: Excellent analytical, problem-solving, interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Industry Knowledge: Knowledge of P&C Insurance and Guidewire Claim Center, or any other Guidewire product is a plus.

Compensation

The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:

$132,000 - $198,000
