Bioinformatics Intern
THE OPPORTUNITY
The Molecular Biomarkers & Informatics group within the Biomarkers & Data Analytics (BDA) team in Singapore is currently seeking a talented and highly motivated Bioinformatics intern. The main objective of this position is to drive the discovery and validation of clinically relevant biomarkers through data-driven approaches, ultimately achieving a comprehensive understanding of human disease biology and pathology. In this role, you will be an integral part of a dynamic and interdisciplinary team. Your primary focus will be on enhancing and facilitating the drug discovery process through activities such as data harmonization, data deconvolution, multimodal data analytics, and advanced machine learning techniques. Collaboration with scientists from various therapeutic areas will be essential, as you work together to develop and support scientific workplans both internally and externally.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
Multimodal data analytics for biomarker discovery, validation, and MoA elucidation
- Develop and implement computational strategies for integrated analysis across diverse biological datasets, including but not limited to transcriptomics (bulk- and single-cell RNAseq), proteomics/peptidomics, lipidomics, metabolomics, metagenomics data.
- Employ state-of-the-art machine learning and AI techniques to uncover patterns in extensive biological datasets, developing predictive models that inform therapeutic strategies.
- Collaborate with cross-functional colleagues to drive the data-driven discovery and prioritization of clinically relevant biomarkers, integrating advanced analytics to elucidate the molecular mechanisms of action.
Data Integration and automation
- Evaluate and harmonize multi-dimensional data to ensure data quality and consistency.
- Architect and manage databases for cross-functional biological data from public and proprietary sources.
- Optimize and automate workflows when applicable, streamline data access for researchers to facilitate high-throughput analysis and collaborative research efforts.
Collaborative Research and strategic partnerships
- Work closely with experimental biologists, chemists, and other computational biologists to design experiments, analyse results, and communicate findings in scientific reports and presentations.
WHAT YOU MUST HAVE
- Being currently enrolled in a Bachelor or Master’s Program in Computational Biology, Bioinformatics, precision medicine or related science program
- Ability to integrate and analyze data from diverse omics platforms (e.g., bulk and single-cell transcriptomics, proteomics/peptidomics, lipidomics, metabolomics, metagenomics), proficiency in pathway analysis, statistical analysis and data visualization.
- Experience in the analysis of public datasets: TCGA, DepMap, Drug Synergy, GTEx, GEO, etc.
- Proficiency in software engineering and programming languages such as Python and R, and familiarity with data engineering techniques including cloud-based and on-premises database services, database management systems, APIs and workflow development frameworks.
- Desirable to have strong communication skills, with a focus on creating and delivering presentations.
