Overview:
The ‘Services within Mastercard’ division is responsible for acquiring, engaging, and retaining customers by managing fraud and risk, enhancing cybersecurity, and improving the digital payments experience. We provide value-added services and leverage expertise, data-driven insights, and execution.
Identity Verification (a program within Services), is the global standard in identity verification, providing businesses worldwide the ability to link any digital transaction to the human behind it. Our Identity Engine, the first and only of its kind, uses complex machine learning to combine features derived from the billions of transactions within our proprietary network and the data from our graph to deliver industry leading risk assessment solutions.
We are the Platform & API Team which is responsible for the customer facing APIs to our products and are looking for a Sr Software Engineer for our Budapest Hungary office. As a Software Engineer II, we are looking for someone who thrives on coding and maintaining high performance data processing applications in functional programming on the JVM platform (which is primarily in Clojure), running on AWS. Our ideal candidate would have experience building latency sensitive APIs with functional programming using the most fitting tools and having the passion to champion new and exciting technologies to solve our unique and challenging problems.

Role & Responsibilities:
• Work as part of a development Scrum team in an Agile environment that is geographically diverse
• Functional Programming experience, interest, and skills.
• Responsible as needed for the analysis, design, development, and delivery of software backend (REST API) solutions
• Working on and influencing solutions to adhere to Mastercard standards, processes, and best practices
• Develop, customize, and test applications to integrate to Mastercard’s specifications
• Help mentor and guide other team members during all phases of the SDLC.
• Work to ensure adequate test coverage in Unit Testing, System Testing/Integration Testing and Performance Testing.
• Be part of a day-time team on-call schedule to support our APIs during customer use.
• Hybrid office where 3 day weekly average in office is expected.
All About You:
• Demonstrated software development experience in a professional development team setting.
• Strong willingness and ability to learn / take on challenging opportunities
• Possess strong communication skills -- both verbal and written – and strong relationship, collaborative and organizational skills.
• JVM exposure, or experience with at least one object-oriented language (Java, C#, C++, Python, etc.) and ideally some prior exposure with functional programming (IE: Clojure) or other relevant languages
• Exposure to Functional Programming.
• Knowledge of unit testing frameworks and source control systems; (Git / BitBucket a plus)
• Experience working with cloud-based server environments; (AWS ideally)
Helpful to have:
• Experience with Clojure, functional programming languages, JSON, HTTP, RESTful services
• Experience writing automated acceptance tests in Cucumber, RestAssured, etc. (used in CI/CD pipelines)
• Experience with SQL and NoSQL databases (Cassandra, Redis or Other)
• Experience working in a CI/CD environment. (Jenkins a plus)
• Experience with Confluence, JIRA and Agile
• Experience with customer facing, scalable, and performant RESTful APIs
• Experience with monitoring tools and supporting high customer traffic APIs
• An interest in fraud detection and security.
Education / Experience:
• Experience in delivering secure solutions in Financial / Fraud Services Sector is preferred. Broad understanding of Software Engineering Concepts and Methodologies is required. Demonstrate MC Core Competencies.
• Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Information Technology, Computer Science or Engineering or equivalent work experience.
