Job Description:

The Center for Translational Neuroscience is looking for a Senior Data Scientist who will be supervised by the Center Director, Eric Morrow MD PhD. The Senior Data Scientist utilizes data analysis and computational simulations to investigate brain disease. The Senior Data Scientist employs computational biology methods to plan and implement research activities and provide supervision of the research activities of other technical support personnel, scientific staff and trainees. The Senior Data Scientist will have the responsibility of overseeing the efficient and safe running of the research, and to provide training and guidance to research assistants, grad students, postdocs and other lab personnel. The Senior Data Scientist will also plan and implement a data storage plan for the Center. Analyses of various types of data will be conducted, with an emphasis on -omics datasets, particularly transcriptomics, such as single-cell RNA-sequencing data.


The Senior Data Scientist will independently conduct data analyses as well as supervise and provide technical guidance to laboratory personnel. This position will contribute figures to manuscripts that will be submitted for publication, where co-authorship will be garnered. The Senior Data Scientist will assist in grant writing and presentation preparation potentially delegating tasks to other members of the dry lab.


This is a fixed term position with a current end date of 2 years from the date of hire, which may be extended based upon available funding.

Job Qualifications:

Education

  • Required: Master’s Degree and 3-5 years related experience

  • PhD preferred

  • Or equivalent combination of education and experience

Experience

  • Relevant coursework and knowledge of computational and statistical approaches and techniques in the areas of data science and -omics analyses

  • Strong computer and statistical skills with preferably some experience using laboratory data programs

  • Familiarity with public databases.

  • Excellent written and communication skills
