Moderna is seeking a Software Developer (SDE) / Machine Learning Engineer (MLE) to join the ML Platform Team in Warsaw, Poland. This role is essential in building tools and infrastructure that empower data scientists to experiment and deploy cutting-edge machine learning models and algorithms at scale. You will work closely with data science and application teams, ensuring seamless collaboration and integration of AI-driven solutions into real-world applications. We seek an innovative, highly motivated engineer who is eager to leverage software engineering and machine learning to advance mRNA therapeutics and vaccines, improving patient lives worldwide.

Here’s What You’ll Do

Your key responsibilities will be:

  • Design and develop software systems for machine learning solutions, ensuring efficiency, scalability, and reliability.

  • Collaborate with data scientists, product managers, and software engineers to translate complex requirements into technical implementations.

  • Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code in relevant programming languages (primarily Python).

  • Develop and optimize end-to-end machine learning pipelines, including data ingestion, preprocessing, evaluation, deployment, and monitoring.

  • Build and maintain APIs and microservices to support AI applications.

  • Implement best practices in software development, including code reviews, testing frameworks, and continuous integration/deployment (CI/CD).

  • Ensure compliance with data security and privacy regulations throughout the software development lifecycle.

Your responsibilities will also include:

  • Enhance and optimize existing ML workflows for performance and scalability.

  • Apply containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes) for scalable ML model deployments.

  • Collaborate with junior engineers, sharing best practices and knowledge to foster team growth.

  • Stay informed on emerging AI and machine learning technologies, contributing to continuous innovation.

  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical challenges to maintain system performance and reliability.

  • Work in an agile, cross-functional environment, contributing to interdisciplinary software projects.

Here’s What You’ll Need (Basic Qualifications)

  • Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.

  • 5+ years of software engineering experience, with a focus on AI and machine learning.

  • Experience with ML workflows, including model deployment using CI/CD.

  • Hands-on experience designing and implementing machine learning systems in production environments.

  • Strong understanding of deep learning frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, PyTorch Lightning, JAX) and libraries (e.g., CUDA).

  • Experience with containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).

Here’s What You’ll Bring to the Table (Preferred Qualifications)

  • 5+ years of experience delivering software projects in an industry setting.

  • Excellent communication skills (verbal, written, and remote collaboration).

  • Ability to communicate effectively across multiple levels of stakeholders.

  • Experience working on machine learning workflows and executing interdisciplinary software projects.

  • Proficiency in Python, particularly in machine learning libraries (Sklearn, PyTorch).

  • Familiarity with LLM technologies (e.g., Llama) and cloud deployment (e.g., AWS Bedrock).

  • Knowledge of Amazon Web Services (AWS) (e.g., ECR, ECS, EC2).

  • Experience troubleshooting and debugging complex technical systems.

  • Understanding of distributed systems, databases (PostgreSQL), and Unix-based operating systems.

  • Ability to manage multiple projects and work collaboratively in a dynamic environment.

  • Experience in agile/scrum workflows.
