Software Engineer I - Infrastructure Team

We are looking for a Software Engineer I to join one of our Infrastructure Engineering teams at Marqeta! 1As a Software Engineer I on the Infrastructure engineering team,  you will be instrumental in shaping the foundation of our fintech solutions. Your mission will be to drive innovation, scalability, and reliability within our cloud-based infrastructure. You will build Infrastructure tooling on top of AWS primitives, work with cross-functional teams like security, development, and operations to achieve infrastructure goals. IaC (Infrastructure as Code):
We seek to be secure, available, fully automated, repeatable, Cloud Native, and part of the community.  Our team reduces the cost of operating by creating the infrastructure and scaffolding for our engineering user community to deploy multi-region, highly-available services.

CI (Continuous Integration): 

You will help build and maintain the tooling that all Engineers at Marqeta use to build and test their code. You will work on tasks with other engineers on the team to build new features, fix bugs, and measure the success of your changes.

CD (Continuous Deployment):

You will play a key role in ensuring Marqeta engineers have the tools they need to build, deploy, and operate their services quickly, safely, and at scale.  You will partner with a team of engineers at all levels to deliver solutions that support the needs of Marqeta engineers  including SDLC tooling, various types of automation, scalable infrastructure, and platforms for low-code and AI development.  You will engage with all phases of the software development lifecycle, and implement solutions using AWS infrastructure as well as traditional software. 

Kubernetes Platform:

We're looking for passionate Kubernetes Engineers to join our team and help scale our managed Kubernetes platform in AWS. You'll build, test, and improve infrastructure while learning Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and automation best practices. If you're eager to grow your cloud-native skills and have a basic understanding of Kubernetes or cloud computing, we want to hear from you!

AI technology for Internal Productivity:
Focusing on Developer Productivity is to leverage cutting-edge AI technologies to streamline the software development process, enhance efficiency, and foster innovation. Our ultimate goal is to empower our developers, enabling them to deliver superior value to our customers and drive the success of our business. The ideal candidate will have a strong desire to learn and grow in Gen-AI, can learn and pick up new technologies at an amazing speed, understanding and knowledge of Amazon Bedrock, Vector DB, embedding models, and LLMs, along with robust programming skills. In this role, you will be working and assisting senior engineers to design, develop, and implement GenAI applications to enhance developer productivity.

The Impact You’ll Have

• Design, build, and maintain software to enable resilient and scalable infrastructure provisioning that supports the engineering user community at Marqeta the core payments platform. This role is pivotal in crafting innovative automated strategies that elevate safety standards and ensure seamless compliance.  
• Work with key stakeholders in shaping our Infrastructure as code (IaC) policies,  write IaC modules that align with best practices and implement detection capabilities for non compliant architecture.
• Drive tooling innovation that accelerates developer productivity and reduces toil.
• Work in close collaboration with our security team to ensure the highest levels of security and compliance for our cloud infrastructure.  
• Contribute across cross-functional projects to achieve infrastructure excellence and participate in yearly audits.

Who You Are

• Bachelor's degree.  In lieu of a degree, 2+ years of relevant experience may suffice.
• Proficiency in programming languages and scripting for automation (e.g., Python, Ruby or Go).
• Experience with AWS services such as CodeBuild, Lambda, S3, DynamoDB and  AWS access controls.
• Familiarity with containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes) and a strong background in infrastructure as code (preferably, Terraform).  
• Excellent communication skills and ability to convey complex concepts accessibly, while actively engaging in team-driven initiatives.
• You are an automation champion and can develop and maintain tools for provisioning, monitoring, and managing cloud resources, optimizing system performance and resource utilization. 
• In addition to exceptional technical ability and coding skills, we are looking for someone who is hungry, humble and intelligent.

Nice-To-Haves

• Familiarity with IaC pipelines and tooling 
• Experience writing OPA policies using rego
• Experience in software delivery pipelines and CI/CD systems

Compensation and Benefits

Marqeta is a Flex First company which allows you to choose your best working environment, whether that be from home or at a company office. To support Flex First, we calibrate pay to a competitive value according to working location. 

When determining salaries, we consider several factors including, but not limited to, skills, prior experience, and work location. The new-hire base salary range for this position, reflected in CAD, is: 76,300 - 95,400.
