Internship Programme - Biostatistics and Real-World Evidence  

Position Overview 

Putnam is looking to hire an intern to join our Evidence team.  

Are you passionate about data analysis and eager to apply your statistical skills to real-world healthcare challenges? Join our international team of biostatisticians at Putnam and start your biostatistics journey under the guidance of an experienced supervisor. Gain hands-on experience working with clinical trial data to assess treatment effects and compare therapeutic options.  

Since different treatments are often studied in separate clinical trials, analyses require careful investigation, appropriate statistical adjustments, and rigorous analytical methods to ensure robust comparisons. Every analysis is unique, requiring dedicated planning, execution, and reporting, making our work both intellectually stimulating and rewarding—you won’t get bored! 

 

The program will run full-time Monday through Friday for 3 months (starting in July of 2025) over the summer. There will be opportunities to continue working with the team part-time during the school year. The end date to the internship will be agreed upon between the students and their manager.  

 

Your Role and Responsibilities: 

As an intern, you will be actively involved in all stages of our analyses, including: 

  • Feasibility assessment – Evaluating available data (similarity and completeness) and determining the potential for analysis 
  • Analysis plan development – Designing statistical approaches relevant to the objectives and available data  
  • Input data management and harmonization – Preparing and aligning data from different trials 
  • Programming and code development – writing scripts for statistical modeling and analysis 
  • Analysis execution – Applying statistical methods to the predefined scope 
  • Quality check – Ensuring accuracy and reliability of results 
  • Reporting – Summarizing findings in a clear and structured manner 

 

Desired Skills and Experience  

  • The ideal candidate will be entering their last year of university following the summer program (rising senior, current 3rd year) and pursuring a degree with a large statistical component (MMath/MSc/Engineer school) 
  • Experience with statistical programming packages, particularly R. Other as SAS or Python will be an asset 
  • Interest in statistics and its applications in life science  
  • Tenacity and patience, to see research projects through from proposal to completion 
  • Good time management and organizational skills 

Please note this is not a summer program for PhDs and MBAs at this time.
