JOB SUMMARY

The City Manager’s Office (CMO) is responsible for supporting the City Manager to enable the successful alignment of the values and priorities of Council with the administrative resources and business operations of the City structure. 

The Service Optimization and Data Insights Branch works horizontally across the organization to support this mandate and advance enterprise-wide priorities of continuous improvement and data-informed decision-making. The Data Insights Unit provides data leadership and support for data literacy across the organization by helping teams better leverage and convey the meaning behind their data through the development of data products (e.g., dashboards, data stories); supporting the implementation of a Citywide Data Strategy and related initiatives; and demonstrating the ongoing commitment to data-informed decision-making with the public release of City data through the Open Data Program.

You are responsible for supporting the City’s Open Data Program, providing dashboard development and support, and for conducting regular reviews of documents and products to ensure feasibility and data accessibility. 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Completion of 4 year university degree in Statistics, Economics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Data Science, Business Intelligence, Business Administration or a related field 

Minimum 3 years of related experience in data analysis 

KNOWLEDGE

  • General knowledge of corporate technology systems and databases, business intelligence and data visualization tools (Power BI)
  • Basic understanding of database principles and structure, statistical analysis, interpretation, methods, tools and predictive modeling
  • Basic understanding of emerging research methodologies and technologies
  • Experience working in a political environment is an asset
  • Knowledge of applicable health and safety legislation, including the rights and duties of workers

  • Ability to analyze needs and product requirements to create a design
  • Ability to conduct tests or inspections of products to ensure their quality
  • Ability to determine causes of operating errors in technological systems and decide how to resolve the issues
  • Capacity to design and develop layouts for data visualization and open data products
  • Ability to identify and assess risks and determine procedures to be followed to reduce or avoid their impact
  • Ability to manage one's own time and the time of others
  • Ability to plan for and communicate the effects of change
