A Day in the LifeIn this role, you will lead an international team of engineers and technicians in developing scalable machine vision platforms for defect inspection across Medtronic’s diverse product portfolio. Drive innovation and impact enterprise-wide goals, ensuring quality and performance while meeting cost-down targets.
  • Build, mentor, and supervise a geographically dispersed, high-performing technical team, fostering collaboration across regions and cultures

  • Work closely with team members and leadership to define and achieve strategic goals for the Automated Vision Inspection portfolio

  • Collaborate on continuous improvement initiatives, including technology development and business processes, to drive efficiency and foster innovation

  • Develop and maintain machine vision systems technology roadmap and budget, driving innovative defect inspection solutions

  • Plan, direct and implement all aspects of the company's design and development of scalable machine vision inspection system technologies from design to release

  • Create compelling business cases, supported by ROI analysis, regulatory alignment, and projected operational benefits, to prioritize and secure funding for high-impact opportunities

  • Provide strategic leadership for the Medtronic Manufacturing Imaging Technology and Analytics Center of Excellence, ensuring alignment with enterprise goals driving innovation and operational success

  • Build strong partnerships with Manufacturing, Automation, Process, Quality, Regulatory, and Analytics for Manufacturing Imaging teams

  • Organize the coordination of activities with outside vendors, integrators, suppliers and consultants to ensure timely delivery

  • May develop, evaluate, implement and maintain technical quality assurance and control systems or reliability systems and standards pertaining to materials, techniques, or company products

  • Monitor documentation maintenance throughout all phases of research and development

Must Haves

  • Bachelor’s Degree and 7+ years of Engineering experience including Machine Vision Systems with 5+ years of managerial experience OR 5+ years of Engineering experience including Machine Vision Systems and 5+ years of managerial experience

Nice to Have

  • Demonstrated functional leadership excellence in manufacturing technology, including test, measurement, inspection, or related engineering system development, with a proven track record of delivering results in regulated industries

  • Proven technical leadership of technology systems development projects

  • Demonstrated hands-on success developing and deploying machine vision inspection systems, leveraging Measurement Systems Analysis (MSA) to ensure accuracy, reliability, and regulatory compliance

  • Experience in automation and factory systems integration, such as seamless implementation of machine vision systems into broader manufacturing and control systems (e.g. MEC, SCADA)

  • Proven success in transforming and stabilizing engineering organizations by implementing scalable processes, fostering innovation, and driving measurable improvements in efficiency, quality, and team performance in dynamic and unstructured environments

  • Success deploying measurement systems with regulatory standards such as ISO 13485, FDA regulations, or GMP

  • Hands-on process development experience (IQ/OQ/PQ, TMV, Process Characterization, DOEs).

  • DRM, DFSS, or Six Sigma Black Belt certification

  • Knowledge of advanced imaging techniques, such as 3D imaging, multispectral, or hyperspectral, for defect detection and quality assurance applications

  • Proficiency with data analytics tools and platforms for machine vision systems, including statistical analysis and AI/ML integration and deployment

  • Familiarity with Industry 4.0 concepts, such as IoT integration and cloud-based machine vision solutions

  • Programming skills with expertise in developing or customizing vision algorithms

  • A history of patents or publications related to machine vision, AI image processing, or inspection technologies

  • Ability to travel up to 20% depending on project phases

Salary ranges for U.S (excl. PR) locations (USD):$160,000.00 - $240,000.00

This position is eligible for a short-term incentive called the Medtronic Incentive Plan (MIP).

The base salary range is applicable across the United States, excluding Puerto Rico and specific locations in California. The offered rate complies with federal and local regulations and may vary based on factors such as experience, certification/education, market conditions, and location. Compensation and benefits information pertains solely to candidates hired within the United States (local market compensation and benefits will apply for others).

The following benefits and additional compensation are available to those regular employees who work 20+ hours per week: Health, Dental and vision insurance, Health Savings Account, Healthcare Flexible Spending Account, Life insurance, Long-term disability leave, Dependent daycare spending account, Tuition assistance/reimbursement, and Simple Steps (global well-being program).

 

The following benefits and additional compensation are available to all regular employees: Incentive plans, 401(k) plan plus employer contribution and match, Short-term disability, Paid time off, Paid holidays, Employee Stock Purchase Plan, Employee Assistance Program, Non-qualified Retirement Plan Supplement (subject to IRS earning minimums), and Capital Accumulation Plan (available to Vice Presidents and above, or subject to IRS earning minimums).

 

Regular employees are those who are not temporary, such as interns.  Temporary employees are eligible for paid sick time, as required under applicable state law, and the Employee Stock Purchase Plan. Please note some of the above benefits may not apply to workers in Puerto Rico.
