Job Title: Senior Analytics Engineer 

Location: Amsterdam (2 days in the office per week) 

Start Date: 1st April 2025 

Industry: Chemical Distribution / Supply Chain & Logistics 

Work type: Full-Time Contract (Freelance) 

Duration: 9 months + extension 

Duration: 105 EUR/hour

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Analytics Engineer / Data Modeler to lead our client’s data modeling initiatives and optimize their business intelligence (BI) processes. The successful candidate will oversee a team of 2-3 SQL Data Engineers, providing guidance on best practices for developing dbt (data build tool) models and enhancing Power BI performance through use case-oriented data modeling. This role requires a deep understanding of SQL query optimization, physical data modeling, and the ability to translate complex business requirements into efficient data models.

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Lead the design, implementation, and maintenance of scalable data models to support BI use cases, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives. 

  • Develop and enforce best practices for dbt model development, including coding standards, project structure, and documentation, to ensure consistency and quality across data projects. 

  • Collaborate with stakeholders to define problem statements and translate business requirements into effective data models and analytical solutions

  • Optimize Power BI performance by implementing best practices in data modeling, such as proper relationship definitions, efficient DAX calculations, and data load strategies. 

  • Provide leadership and mentorship to the SQL Data Engineering team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional development. 

  • Establish and document data modeling guidelines, standards, and procedures to ensure data integrity, consistency, and best practices across the organization. 

  • Stay informed of industry trends and advancements in data modeling, dbt, and BI tools to continuously improve processes and technologies. 

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Science, or a related field. 

  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in data modeling, data engineering, or analytics engineering roles. 

  • Proven expertise in SQL, including complex query optimization and performance tuning. 

  • Extensive experience with dbt, including best practices for model development and project management. 

  • Skilled in Databricks (production experience).  

  • Strong knowledge of Power BI, including data modeling techniques, DAX, and performance optimization strategies

  • Demonstrated ability to define problem statements, communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical stakeholders, and lead teams to successful project delivery. 

  • Experience in creating and implementing data modeling guidelines and best practices. 

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Experience with cloud data platforms (e.g., AWS, Databricks) and related services. 

  • Familiarity with other BI tools and data visualization platforms. 

  • Knowledge of data warehousing concepts and ETL processes. 

  • Relevant certifications in data modeling, dbt, or Power BI.
