Data Architect

Position Summary

The Data Architect plays a key role, within the Data Governance team, in designing, implementing, and managing the architecture that enables data to be exploited and delivered as a product. This role requires expertise in designing data models, building and optimizing data pipelines and ensuring that practices and tools align with governance, security, and compliance standards and policies. You will work closely with the AJISS team to ensure that data solutions are scalable, efficient, and meet business needs throughout the data lifecycle—from collection and storage to analysis and disposal.

As a Data Architect, your primary responsibility will be to design and secure data architectures that ensure the integrity, confidentiality and accessibility of data across multiple platforms. You will oversee the development of data pipelines and ensure high data quality, contributing to the organization’s ability to make data-driven decisions while maintaining the highest standards of data security and governance.

Your role will involve collaborating with IT, Innovation, and AJISS teams to create data solutions that optimize data flow, enhance system performance, and ensure compliance with industry regulations. You will continuously evolve the data architecture to accommodate growing data demands, ensuring that governance frameworks are adaptable and scalable.

Key Areas of Responsibility

  • Data Architecture Design: Design and maintain a scalable, data architecture that meets business goals while ensuring security, compliance, and performance; Document the structure, integration, and flow of data between systems and the resulting data model and quality rules..
  • Data Integration & Pipeline Management: Collaborate with the AJISS team to integrate data from various sources, ensuring data is accessible, accurate, and aligned with business objectives.
  • Collaborate with IT and Innovation teams to align data architectures with business processes, technical infrastructure, and governance standards; Work with the AJISS team to ensure that data integration strategies align with business needs, promoting smooth data transfer, analysis, and reporting across systems; Collaborate with AJISS to incorporate data governance and security standards in all data systems.
  • Technology & Tool Selection: Contribute to the evaluation and selection of tools, technologies, and platforms for building and optimizing data pipelines, ensuring alignment with long-term scalability, performance, and security needs; Stay informed on emerging trends and technologies in data integration, architecture, and governance to keep systems adaptable and future-proof.
  • Design and implement data security protocols, including access control and encryption, to protect sensitive data and ensure compliance with privacy regulations; Develop frameworks for continuous monitoring and optimization of data systems and pipelines, ensuring performance, reliability, and security;  Collaborate with AJISS to ensure monitoring tools and dashboards are in place to track the health and performance of data systems, proactively identifying and addressing issues.

Minimum Requirements

  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in data architecture, data modeling, data integration, and the design of data pipelines.
  • Expertise in cloud-based platforms, data management, and enterprise application integration.
  • Knowledge of governance frameworks, data security protocols, and best practices for ensuring the integrity confidentiality and privacy of data across integrated systems.
  • Proficiency in modern tools and technologies for data integration, pipeline management, and system performance monitoring.
  • Experience with cross-functional collaboration with different stakeholders such as IT, Innovation, and data teams like AJISS, to align data solutions with business objectives; Ability to stay current with the latest trends in data system architecture and integration technologies, applying them to solve complex data challenges.
  • Undergraduate degree in software engineering, computer science or related field.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with military (ideally Navy); Experience with enterprise systems / ERPs such as SAP, IBM Maximo; Experience in enterprise architecture frameworks such as TOGAF of DNDAF; and Experience with artificial intelligence techniques and toolsets.

Special Position Requirements

  • Hybrid – 3 days a week onsite;
  • Full time, standard business hours.  Some on-site work required in the lab.
