Join Roche, where every voice matters.

The Position

This role is based in the Product Development Data Sciences department which is dedicated to providing world-class trial designs as well as statistical insights and analytics for both clinical trial and real-world data. We partner closely with experts from different functions within our company, academics, and Health Authorities to innovate and bring more safe and effective drugs to patients faster and at a lower cost to society.

The opportunity

Roche is seeking a highly motivated and talented Data Scientist Intern to join our team in developing new endpoints based on Digital Health Technology (DHT). This internship offers a unique opportunity to work on cutting-edge projects that have the potential to transform the way we diagnose and treat neurological diseases and how DHTs impact drug development.

Traditional clinical endpoints in neurological diseases have well-known shortcomings, including high variability and lack of sensitivity to change. Wearable devices generate large amounts of high-frequency data from participants' daily environments. This presents both opportunities and challenges for the analyst. The objective of this internship is to identify, implement, develop, and evaluate various analysis approaches for the high-frequency “raw data” from sensors.

During the internship, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Learn about state-of-the-art algorithms for passive activity/gait analysis.

  • Develop and implement novel data analysis methods for quality checks and activity/gait analysis using wearable Inertial Measurement Unit (IMU) technology.

  • Apply AI/ML methodologies, such as deep learning, to analyze high-frequency "raw data" from wearable sensors.

  • Develop prediction models for disease evolution.

  • Compare results to clinical data collected in Roche and external studies.

  • Present findings to our internal Roche community.

Who you are:

  • Completed or close to finishing a MSc or doing a PhD (or equivalent) in Data Science or a related discipline.

  • Experience with time-series data and signal processing.

  • Knowledge of Machine Learning fundamentals.

  • Strong programming skills in Python (required) and R (optional).

  • Effective communication skills in English.

Preferred:

  • Experience with biosensors and biomechanical models.

  • Experience with Machine Learning in Python.

We are looking forward to your application!
