Job Description
This is an UNPAID internship through the DoD Skillbridge Program for transitioning active-duty US military personnel. DoD Skillbridge Internships are available to help transitioning active-duty military personnel gain real-world experience in the work force sometime during their final 180 days of active-duty service. The intern will actively train on meaningful projects and work closely with a mentor and with senior company leadership. HII Mission Technologies Internship programs are focused on placing transitioning military into internships that require KSAs, Education & Military Training similar to their current or previous military jobs; positions that could easily transition over to a full-time regular and permanent job with HII.
Objective
The Skillbridge intern will train as a Modeling & Simulation – Integrator / Operator within HII-Mission Technologies, reporting to a designated HII Supervisor, and focus on becoming a fully trained M&S Integrator capable of supporting NORAD/NORTHCOM exercise planning, execution, and assessment through effective utilization of various modeling and simulation tools within the Joint Live Virtual Constructive (JLVC) environment. The intern will be assigned special projects as needed.
Desired End State (3-4 month target)
At the end of four months, the intern will be able to:
- Technical Systems Proficiency
- Gain foundational knowledge of primary M&S systems (BCS-F, RTAP, JIMDTS)
- Learn basic operation and integration of simulation tools in JLVC environment
- Understand system architecture and data flow between different M&S platforms
- Exercise Planning & Integration
- Develop understanding of joint doctrine and exercise planning processes
- Learn requirements gathering and M&S tool selection methodology
- Practice scenario development and database creation for training events
- Operational Execution
- Shadow experienced operators during exercise execution
- Learn troubleshooting and real-time problem-solving techniques
- Understand assessment and after-action review processes
- Mission Technologies will benefit from the military background of the Skillbridge intern and considers the Skillbridge internship an overall positive experience.
Assumptions/Restrictions
- Skillbridge Intern will possess at minimum an active Top Secret/SCI security clearance.
- Skillbridge Intern will be available during core hours for critical meetings and training.

WEEK 1: Introduction & Fundamentals

WEEK 2: M&S Systems Overview
- Introduction to Battle Control System-Fixed (BCS-F) architecture
- Real Time Analytical Platform (RTAP) basic operations
- Joint Integrated Missile Defense and Warning Training System fundamentals
WEEK 3: JLVC Environment
- Network architecture and connectivity requirements
- Basic IT security principles and protocols
- Introduction to distributed simulation concepts
WEEK 4: Programming Fundamentals
- Basic Python programming concepts
- AFSIM software introduction
- Data structure and integration principles

WEEK 5: Exercise Planning I

Minimum Qualifications
Active-Duty Military ONLY within final 180 days of active-duty service. Applications accepted within final 12 months of active-duty service. Education and Experience dependent on Program of Instruction.
- Must have TOP SECRET/SCI Security clearance
- Bachelor's in Engineering (EE, ME, CE, or SWE)
- Must have a minimum of five (5) years of joint M&S planning experience in a Combat Support Agency, Combatant Command, or Joint Staff level. Must have practical experience in the application of M&S tools for the planning and execution of joint wargames and/or exercises.
- Individual(s) should be able to understand and apply joint doctrine.
- Intermediate knowledge of M&S architectures and design methodology for experiments using live, virtual, and constructive (LVC) environments.
- Comprehensive knowledge of a broad range of modeling, simulation, and analysis techniques.
- Familiarity with the operation of a broad range of M&S tools during exercise and wargame execution, and the ability to assess the M&S requirements of a Joint Staff and recommend M&S tools based on those requirements.
- Operational expertise or related experience supporting air, land, and/or maritime operations.

- 2+ years Instructor/Evaluator Experience
