We currently have a fantastic opportunity for you to help shape Scottish Water's data-driven, geospatial future.
At Scottish Water we are trusted to provide essential water and wastewater services to the people of Scotland 24/7 365 days a year. GIS systems and data are used across many parts of the business. Our Geospatial Innovation team works across the business to ensure the systems meet the needs of the business and improve data value, data productivity, data quality, data protection, and to drive a data-driven culture. We work to deliver our commitments with an agile approach.
If you love geospatial as much as we do, then we see a future for you here with us.
What you will be doing:
The Geospatial Innovation team works across the business to oversee and deliver core GIS functionality, support and educate users, improve the geospatial data model and seek and deliver opportunities to innovate with the technologies available. These areas are a priority for us as we need to ensure that the business can access the necessary systems and make the right decisions based on the corporate geospatial data available. It also supports our employees, by making their lives easier by ensuring they have the right data and information to do their roles.
As a Senior Data Analyst/GIS Data Designer, you will be viewed as an expert on all things geospatial/GIS. We are looking for candidates with a technical knowledge of technical systems, data model evolution and data quality, plus the ability to lead initiatives and provide strategic collaboration and support to leadership.
Your responsibilities may include designing and implementing robust geospatial solutions to support digital and transformation initiatives, collaborating with partners to optimise platform management, overseeing geospatial data model evolution to meet Scottish Water's growing data needs, and ensuring data consistency, quality, and security. You will provide technical guidance for enterprise data solutions, identify and resolve data quality issues, and ensure compliance with data protection regulations and industry best practices.
To succeed in this role, you will need experience leading initiatives and supporting leadership, strong technical skills with ESRI products (ArcMap, ArcPro, and AGOL), expertise in enterprise data design for large GIS solutions, and knowledge of metadata management, platform management, and data cataloguing. Analytical thinking, problem-solving abilities, and strong communication skills are essential, as is experience in a geospatial or GIS role. The ability to work independently with minimal supervision is also important.
Additional skills that would be advantageous include proficiency in coding languages such as Python or FME, experience in data and information management, familiarity with Agile methodologies, data architecture knowledge, and an understanding of enterprise integration technologies like Dell Boomi or Azure Integration Services.

A few final things worth knowing…
Research shows that some people avoid applying for jobs unless they can meet every single criteria. If you’re interested in this job, but don’t tick all the boxes, apply anyway! We hardly ever hire people who can do every part of a job from Day One. Everyone has a learning curve. So don’t rule yourself out!
Let us know if there are any changes we can make to our recruitment process to help you perform at your best. Lots of our people have disabilities or neurodiverse conditions (including some of our recruiters!). We're also aware that some people might be experiencing temporary challenges because of life events, like menopause. We’re very used to making adjustments, so please don’t be afraid to ask.
As part of our commitment to developing a flourishing Scotland, it’s important that all our employees are Scottish taxpayers. If you join us, your home address will need to be in Scotland. If you don’t already live here, you'll need to commit to moving here within your first three months.
