Role OverviewCI&T is seeking an experienced Data Scientist to join our nearshore team working on a project for our client in the mortgage technology sector. In this role, you will focus on analyzing patterns in third-party API usage and developing algorithms to optimize the sequence and decision-making around these API calls. You will work with expensive verification services ($100s per call) to create intelligent "waterfall" strategies that minimize unnecessary calls while maintaining effective verification processes. Your work will directly impact cost efficiency and processing speed for mortgage verification workflows.
Key ResponsibilitiesAnalyze historical patterns of third-party API usage in verification processes (income, employment, assets)Develop statistical models and algorithms to optimize the sequence and necessity of API callsCreate intelligent "waterfall" strategies that minimize expensive API calls while maintaining verification qualityBuild predictive models to determine when certain verification services are likely to provide value vs. costDesign algorithms that can make real-time decisions on which verification services to call based on available dataQuantify and track cost savings achieved through API call optimizationCollaborate with engineers to implement your models and algorithms into production systemsDevelop metrics and KPIs to measure efficiency gains and cost savingsWork with business stakeholders to understand verification requirements and translate them into optimization strategiesResearch and implement machine learning techniques to improve decision-making around third-party service utilization
Required QualificationsMaster's degree or higher in Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, or related field5+ years of professional experience in data science or machine learning rolesExperience with optimization algorithms and decision tree-based approachesProven track record of cost optimization through data analysisExperience analyzing API usage patterns and creating efficient workflowsStrong knowledge of statistical analysis, probability, and experimental designAdvanced or fluent English communication skills (both written and verbal) are essential for collaboration in a remote environment
Preferred QualificationsExperience with optimization problems, particularly cost or resource optimizationKnowledge of decision theory and sequential decision-makingFamiliarity with financial service verification processes or systemsBackground in operations research or similar analytical fieldProgramming skills in Python and experience with ML libraries (scikit-learn, TensorFlow, PyTorch)Experience with AWS services (SageMaker, Lambda, S3, etc.)Experience with A/B testing and experimental designKnowledge of data ethics and privacy considerations in handling sensitive dataPrior experience working with international teamsUnderstanding of how to balance business rules with cost optimization
