Providing scientific advice to decision-makers, emerging economies, and our industry partners is an integral part of the Department of Wind and Energy Systems mission. This new position will further strengthen and expand our activities in this area. As senior advisor, you will manage and execute research-based consultancy projects, contributing to the worldwide transition towards low-carbon energy systems.
The Division for Power and Energy Systems of DTU Wind and Energy Systems provides cutting-edge research in sustainable, reliable and cost-efficient energy systems to benefit society. In the Power System Section (PWR), we work towards developing methods and tools for analysing, operating and controlling power systems with very high shares of renewables. We are about 30 researchers working on trustworthy AI and ML for power systems, control and operation for converter-based power systems, electrical design and optimization, and cyber-physical systems,
Responsibilities and qualifications
As senior advisor you will lead the division’s activities related to scientific advice in renewable and converter-based power systems. Scientific advice includes all research-based services that we provide to public authorities, national and international organisations and business sectors. This includes performing specific technical analyses, capacity-building and engagement in national and international initiatives aiming to support decision-makers.
As a technical expert with a strong background in power system dynamics, converter-based renewable energy sources and, in particular, offshore wind and HVDC, you will have the opportunity to provide scientific advice through theoretical analyses and experimental studies. Furthermore, you will have the chance to design and execute capacity-building activities covering, among others, power system modelling and the use of industry-standard simulation tools.
In the position, you will also have the opportunity to apply your skills and lead the development and implementation of a strategic vision for research-based consultancy within the division, aiming to expand our activities further and build up a team of researchers and engineers dedicated to providing research-based consultancy.
Besides consultancy-related tasks, you will contribute with your expertise to our cutting-edge research projects that develop innovative solutions which form the foundation of our scientific advice, which can also involve the co-supervision of PhD and MSc students.
Your primary tasks will be to:
- Develop and implement a strategy for research-based consultancy within the division
- Plan, manage and carry out technical analyses and studies
- Develop and lead teams of researchers and engineers within consultancy projects
- Engage and interact with a variety of different stakeholders
- Contribute on a strategic level to enhance the department’s visibility and impact as a partner in providing scientific advice
- Contribute to strategic research projects by providing technical expertise and supporting the execution and technical management of the projects, for example, through co-supervision of MSc and PhD students
To be considered for the position you need to hold a PhD or equivalent. Furthermore we imagine that you have experience with:
- Providing research-based consultancy, managing research and commissioned projects and stakeholder interactions
- Power system dynamics, stability and control
- Converter-based power systems, particularly related to offshore wind and HVDC
- Modelling and simulation of power systems, offshore wind and HVDC using tools like PSCAD, RSCAD or PowerFactory and scientific programming tools such as Python and Matlab
You must also possess:
- Excellent command of the English language
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Superior communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage effectively with industry partners, academic collaborators, research staff and decision-makers

Salary and appointment terms
The appointment will be based on the collective agreement with the Danish Confederation of Professional Associations. The allowance will be agreed upon with the relevant union.
The desired starting date is the 1st of May 2025, but it can be changed upon mutual agreement. This is a full-time position.

DTU Wind and Energy Systems, which used to be a division of Risø National Laboratory (until 2012), has undertaken basic research, teaching and commercial activities in all aspects of wind and energy systems since the mid-1970’s.
