Giant Leap Trainee, AI Chatbot for HR

Are you ready to lead your own project and revolutionize the future of employee experience? We’re looking for a trainee with an interest in the intersection of technology and human resources for our Giant Leap program – a project-based internship in our HQ in Vantaa. Your project is to continue developing our intelligent, knowledge-driven HR chatbot that seamlessly integrates HR domain knowledge with advanced AI technology. As a Giant Leaper, you will get your own project to lead for three months, starting in June.

Giant Leap is a unique opportunity for you to be the project manager of your own project, with the support of your teammates and project supervisor. Every year, these projects are carefully selected by our leadership team, meaning that you get to work on real-life questions that are important for us as a company. 

We invest in your growth with training sessions throughout the summer. Along with lessons from your own field and work life in general, you have a chance to learn, for instance, presentation skills, project management and problem solving. Connections built with fellow Giant Leapers, Vaisala’s brilliant experts and our leadership form an invaluable network for your career. Many of our former Giant Leapers have also gone on to build impressive careers at Vaisala after the program. 

What will your summer look like?

Now is the perfect time to join this project. We already have a robust proof-of-concept chatbot, and you will be responsible for its ongoing development. This phase is particularly thrilling as you will ensure the chatbot is ready for implementation for our employees and managers.

Your tasks will revolve around improving the accuracy of the chatbot and mitigating the hallucinations, which are hot topics in the field of artificial intelligence and large language models. You will:

• Advance the chatbot code

• Work with the file management for the backend

• Conduct quality assessments and training the chatbot

• Refine the master prompt, temperature parameters and the database

With your help, we are launching a chatbot in Finland at the end of your project to cater to the needs of 1300 Vaisala professionals. You'll work closely with our team of two: Alexandra Salonen, the project supervisor, and Jolene Hoang, the technical and HR expert. We've learned a lot over the past year and are excited to share our insights with you. You'll also have the opportunity to collaborate with our exceptional HR team on tasks related to database documents and bot testing.

Together, we'll explore AI chatbots during the summer, embracing the ever-evolving nature of the topic. There’s something new to discover every day, and we're excited to explore it together.

We'll have more face-to-face time at the start of your internship in our Vantaa HQ. After your onboarding, you'll have the option for hybrid work, spending approximately 2 days at the office per week.

What kind of skillset are we looking for?

• A university of applied sciences or university student with a background in computer science, information technology or related field

• Basic understanding of software development principles and version control systems (e.g., Git).

• A genuine interest in the intersection of humans and technology, and a belief in how technology can enhance the employee experience.

• Curiosity, problem-solving and strong communication skills are also essential.

Our chatbot operates on Python 3.9 with the Rasa framework. Basic knowledge in natural language processing (NLP) concepts and Python is beneficial, or at least a willingness to learn these before the internship begins. This will greatly simplify your experience.
