Job Description
The Role
Fastmarkets is seeking an experienced Site Reliability Engineer (SRE) with a strong focus on Data Operations (DataOps) to join our worldwide team. As we evolve our data management practices, we are looking for a candidate to lead the establishment of best practices in DataOps, with a particular emphasis on optimizing our Snowflake platform—including user and role management—while supporting the integration and awareness of our Dagster (or similar tools like Airflow or Python orchestration frameworks) and Qlik platforms. Reporting to the Head of SRE, the successful candidate will play a pivotal role in modernizing our data infrastructure, ensuring our data platforms are performant, resilient, and secure, with a key focus on data backup, restore, and integrity processes. While our team already possesses robust Azure and cloud deployment expertise, we are now prioritizing DataOps skills to complement our existing capabilities.
This is an exciting opportunity to shape the next generation of our data platform architecture. We are seeking a proactive individual who will challenge the status quo, collaborate with Data, Engineering, and Cyber teams, and drive operational excellence. While cloud deployment experience (preferably Azure, but AWS and GCP are also valuable) remains a desirable asset, the primary focus of this role is on operational excellence in managing data platforms—specifically leveraging Snowflake (with user and role management), with awareness of Dagster (or similar tools like Airflow or Python orchestration frameworks) and Qlik—rather than data engineering or heavy cloud deployment tasks.
Qualifications
We are looking for a highly motivated, driven individual with a passion for Data Operations and a proven ability to thrive in a fast-paced, collaborative environment. As a strong team player, you should be adaptable and willing to work flexibly to meet the needs of our global team.
Qualifications
We recruit talented, dynamic people with diverse backgrounds and experiences, all united by a belief in our mission to provide the world’s leading and most trusted price reporting, events, and intelligence service for the markets we serve. We’re proud to be an equal opportunities employer and are committed to creating a fully inclusive workplace, where everyone feels able to participate and contribute meaningfully.
If you are open-minded, curious, resilient, solutions-oriented and committed to promoting equality, then read on...
KNOWLEDGE, EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS
We are looking for an individual who is highly motivated, driven, and have a passion to be part of a fast-paced, successful team. Being a strong team player is also important as well as someone who is happy to work flexibly.
Essential
- Extensive knowledge of DataOps best practices for managing data platforms, with a focus on performance optimization, resilience, and security.
- Expertise in establishing best practices for Snowflake, including data warehousing, performance tuning, governance, and user and role management.
- Awareness of Dagster (or similar tools like Airflow or Python orchestration frameworks) for data orchestration and pipeline management to support operational workflows.
- Awareness of Qlik for data visualization and integration to align with operational analytics needs.
- Experience in data backup, restore, and integrity management, ensuring data reliability and recoverability across platforms.
- Proficiency in managing data systems such as Cosmos DB, MySQL, and SQL Server administration.
- RBAC and user management for Data platforms using Azure Active Directory (AD) or similar systems.
- Monitoring, metrics, and observability using tools like Grafana to ensure data platform health.
- Scripting and automation with Bash, PowerShell, and Linux administration.
- Collaboration skills to work effectively with Data, Engineering, and Cyber teams to align operational goals.
- Problem-solving mindset with a commitment to questioning existing processes and implementing innovative solutions.
Desirable
- Cloud deployment experience (Azure preferred, but AWS or GCP also acceptable) to support hybrid operational needs.
- Experience with data pipelines and streaming data technologies.
- Kubernetes and Docker for containerized data platform management.
- SQL Managed Instance experience for advanced data system administration.
- Azure cybersecurity experience to enhance data platform security.
- Terraform and GitHub for infrastructure as code and version control.
- Azure DevOps or similar CI/CD tools for operational workflows.
If you're excited about the role but your experience, skills or qualifications don't perfectly align, we encourage you to apply anyway.
