JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
The J. Jeffrey and Ann Marie Fox Graduate School at Penn State is seeking a Business Intelligence Specialist.
Responsibilities: Following are the key responsibilities of this data science role:
Provide analytical support to the Fox Graduate School through retrieval of data from institutional databases, industry reports, public information, commercially available databases and other internal and external sources to assist in making decisions relevant to graduate education across the University.
Create analytical tools or systems, including the design of related databases, spreadsheets, dashboards and other work products that incorporate advanced data visualization capabilities, allowing for decentralized use of analytics and maximize capability for data discovery by end users, including University, Fox Graduate School, and college administrators for graduate education, graduate program heads and graduate/research faculty.
Prepare standard and/or custom reports summarizing transactional data; enrollment trends; new student metrics, program quality measures and other data for review by executives, and internal and external stakeholders that describe and explain current state, predict future state based upon trends, and propose changes to optimize future outcomes.
Conduct in-depth, high level studies and analyses and prepare reports and/or presentations on major Graduate School initiatives. Monitor and evaluate internal information systems and databases, policies and business practices that impact graduate education and recommend modifications as appropriate.
Provide internal support and serve as liaison for data exchange with external individuals or groups, including, but not limited to, the Council of Graduate Schools, AAUDE, and annual NSF Survey of Earned Doctorates.
This position offers a flexible work arrangement that combines remote and on-campus work. Questions related to flexible work should be directed to the hiring manager during the interview process.
Education and Experience: This position will be filled at the Advanced Professional level and requires a bachelor’s degree or higher and 3+ years of related experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Master’s degree preferred, but not required.
Preference for a degree in a data-focused field of study such as computer science, mathematics, engineering, data science, or information sciences and technology. The ideal candidate will have experience in advanced statistical analytics, predictive modeling, data visualization and will be adept in MS-SQL, Python, Power BI, Tableau and other standard data analytic tools. A demonstrated understanding of scientific research methods and data collection processes in a higher education setting are additional valued qualities in an applicant.

The salary range for this position, including all possible grades is:
$76,700.00 - $115,100.00Salary Structure - additional information on Penn State's job and salary structure.
