Creates and implements an integrated roadmap for all aspects of data governance. Develops, maintains and monitors data governance policies and procedures. Deploys technologies, ensures compliance with standards, and provides updates on policy changes. Ensures that data is secure, private, accurate, available and usable. Provides interpretation of enterprise data governance guidelines. Ensures data strategy and management practices are aligned in support of business objectives. Creates a culture where data is managed as a valuable corporate asset, adheres to the regulations around data compliance, and reduces overall risk.

The candidate will be working on Risk and Finance Data Management, leading working groups with our Risk and Finance reporting areas to build governance around the data used in Regulatory Reports, Board Reports and other key Risk/Finance reports

  • Determine the Critical Data Elements
  • Capture the Metadata (capture the data definitions, data security, sourcing, consumption details, rationalize the CDE names and maintain data catalog)
  • Determine Data Owner of CDEs by working with LOB data teams and confirm the ownership
  • Determine the Authoritative Data Sources
  • Build Data Quality Controls ( asses the controls on CDEs, build new DQ rules and controls)
  • Document Data Lineage ( work with technology in documenting the lineage of all CDEs, work with Risk and Finance reporting  areas to document lineage for manual processes)
  • Manage Data Issues (Work with Risk and Finance reporting  areas and Technology to capture impact of the issues, investigate and determine root cause of the issues, work with LOB data owners to create remediation plan of data issues)
  • Audit (Lead engagements with Internal/Eternal Audit/Data Risk related)
  • Reporting (provide reports on data management work across Risk and Finance, ability to build/design reports/dashboards)
  • Lead assessments on Data, Frameworks, Processes
  • Establishing processes for various aspects of data management across Risk and Finance
  • Drives data governance by actively promoting improved data governance practices, enforcing policy, and following data governance best practices.
  • Harmonizes data in the systems through a collaborative process with members from various business units.
  • Establishes, maintains, periodically reviews and recommends changes to data governance policies, standards, guidelines, and procedures.
  • Conducts audits to ensure that policies, procedures and metrics are in place for maintaining/improving the program.
  • Aligns the Data Governance policy with the overall goals of the business strategy.
  • Drives change in the organization to maximize the value of its data and plans for how the company will make those changes.
  • Fosters a culture aligned to BMO purpose, values and strategy and role models BMO values and behaviours in all that they do.

Qualifications:

  • Typically 7+ years of relevant experience and post-secondary degree in related field of study or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Risk and Finance data and processes (Nice to Have - understanding of Risk and Finance concepts like RWA, Liquidity, Capital, Treasury, Stress Testing, Modeling, Credit Risk, Counterparty Credit Risk, Market Risk, Ops Risk, Reg Reports etc )
  • Data management & data governance processes & tools
  • Leadership, Change management (implementation of change/ new process)
  • Strategy and Planning
  • Communication, Reporting (decks for execs), Presentations
  • Audit and Controls
  • Regulatory reporting (RDARR, CAR, BCBS239, FDIC370, FR2052A etc.)
  • Process Management and improvement

Salary:

$92,400.00 - $171,600.00

Salaries will vary based on factors such as location, skills, experience, education, and qualifications for the role, and may include a commission structure. Salaries for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on number of hours regularly worked. For commission roles, the salary listed above represents BMO Financial Group’s expected target for the first year in this position.

BMO Financial Group’s total compensation package will vary based on the pay type of the position and may include performance-based incentives, discretionary bonuses, as well as other perks and rewards.
