The Senior Director of Enterprise Data Architecture partners with the business and key leaders within the IT family to provide overall direction, guidance, and definition for the architecture and design of AI/ML and gen AI solutions. This includes establishing data standards and design patterns to effectively support the overall business strategy. The successful candidate will lead multiple cross-functional and enterprise-wide initiatives, researching, analyzing, designing, proposing, and delivering AI/ML and gen AI solutions that are appropriate for the business and technology strategy. Additionally, the Senior Director presents to senior leadership, represents IT in multiple business initiatives, and leads and directs work in a hybrid environment, ensuring the implementation of AI/ML and gen AI technologies align with established data standards and design patterns.
Responsibilities
- Possess extensive consulting experience across all data strategy areas, including large-scale data lakes, data warehousing, data analytics, data governance, data security, and data access across the organization.
- Serve as an expert in AI and ML, capable of creating and executing a Center of Excellence (COE) for these skills.
- Lead architecture planning efforts, collaborating closely with architects to ensure applications and technologies are developed and maintained within the context of the enterprise architecture.
- Interface across multiple business areas, acting as a visionary to proactively assist in defining the direction for future projects.
- Take responsibility for conceiving solutions, building consensus, and selling and executing such solutions.
- Design complex systems at the component level, make strategic technology choices, and directly supervise the quality of designs and implementation.
- Lead the data architecture strategy on modern data platforms, with a strong emphasis on Google Cloud Data platforms, Data Fabric, and Data Mesh concepts.
- Possess extensive knowledge and experience in leveraging Google Cloud services for data platform design and management.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to define and implement data fabric and data mesh architectures that enable efficient and scalable data processing and analytics on Google Cloud.
- Drive the adoption of Google Cloud services and technologies to enhance data platform capabilities, including data ingestion, storage, processing, and visualization.
- Develop and maintain the data platform blueprints, standards, and technology roadmaps, with a specific focus on Google Cloud services and solutions.
- Ensure the integration of various data sources and systems into a cohesive and unified data fabric, leveraging Google Cloud data integration and transformation capabilities.
- Implement data governance and data security practices on Google Cloud, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design and implement data pipelines, data lakes, and data warehouses on Google Cloud, utilizing services like BigQuery, Cloud Storage, and Dataflow.
- Stay up-to-date with the latest trends and advancements in Google Cloud data platforms and services, and provide recommendations for continuous improvement and innovation.
- Work closely with architects and engineers to ensure the scalability, reliability, and performance of the data platform on Google Cloud.
- Provide guidance and support to teams in adopting and utilizing Google Cloud services effectively for data platform design and management.
- Collaborate with Google Cloud representatives and vendors to evaluate and implement new features and capabilities that align with the data platform requirements.
- Act as a subject matter expert on Google Cloud data platforms, data fabric, and data mesh concepts, providing guidance and training to the organization.
Qualifications
- A BS in Computer Science, Software Engineering or equivalent work experience is required. An advanced degree is strongly preferred.
- A minimum of 20 years of IT work experience in multiple IT areas and at least 10 years of relevant architecture experience, with significant immersion in full software lifecycle development. Healthcare industry experience is strongly preferred.
- Demonstrated extensive experience in architecture planning, management, and governance, particularly with legacy systems.
- Proficient in navigating and transitioning between different levels of abstraction, from business strategy to IT strategy, high-level technical design, detailed design, and implementation.
- Capable of clearly documenting and communicating objectives, requirements, and designs at various levels of abstraction to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- The ability to quickly and reasonably estimate the capital, schedule, and human resources costs associated with proposed solutions.
- The skill to comparing, contrasting, and prioritizing alternative approaches while assessing both quantitative and qualitative risks.
- Seasoned judgment to propose approaches that optimize customer needs, business constraints, and technological realities.
- The ability to influence and communicate with non-technical audiences, including senior business executives and managers.
- Proven leadership skills, including project management, strong communication, and organizational abilities.
- The ability to drive processes and initiatives, even with indirect authority over project team members.
- Demonstrated experience in fostering innovation, driving transformation, and promoting a culture of continuous improvement.
- A proven track record of successfully leading teams to achieve their goals and objectives, while creating a collaborative and inclusive work environment.
- Strong decision-making skills, with the ability to effectively manage resources and make tough decisions to drive team success.
- The ability to travel 25-50% is required.
