As a Data Scientist at Advance Auto Parts, you will have an opportunity to disrupt a $150B auto parts industry to bring better and faster solutions to customers. You will be part of creating an elite data science function helping the company live its mission of “Advancing a World in Motion”. The role is part of a merit-based organization with a culture of professional growth and development, and emphasis on the latest tools, platforms and technologies.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Identify and lead data driven projects across the company to improve the profitability and revenue for AAP. Areas of focus include Marketing, eCommerce, Customer Experience, Merchandising, Supply Chain, Finance etc.
- Create models to forecast purchasing patterns, demand trends, resource requirements, to gain insights from customer comments and other key metrics to guide business decisions.
- Design data science solutions with best practices in statistical analysis, machine learning and deep learning modeling.
- Create presentations leveraging data visualization tools that clearly and concisely communicate analytical findings and recommendations to business leaders.
Required Professional and Technical Expertise:
- Master’s degree in Statistics, Data Science, Mathematics, Computer Science, Operational Research, or related disciplines
- Experience with advanced analytics techniques (e.g., logistic regression, hierarchical regression, decision tree, random forest, neural networks, etc.)
- Expertise in Python, SQL and with data science and data analytics packages working on structured and unstructured data
- Expertise working in AWS or other cloud service using big data solutions
- Proven ability to understand, cleanse, and integrate massive disparate data sets and demonstrated familiarity with data modeling workflow
- Recognized for analytical rigor and ability to identify actionable insights from ambiguous and sometimes limited information
- Strong communication, ability to effectively connect/translate complex analytics findings to business insights and recommendations
- 2+ years of experience in data science, with a proven track record of building DS solutions and leading projects
Preferred Professional and Technical Expertise:
- Ph.D. in Statistics, Data Science, Mathematics, Computer Science, Operational Research, or related disciplines
- Natural language processing and natural language understanding expertise
- Familiarity with developing and industrializing scalable analytical solutions
- Ability to gain consensus, to lead change and transformation
- Passionate about data science and self-motivated to stay abreast of advances in data science techniques
- Experience in a retail (brick and mortar or online) industry
- Experience leading projects for one or more business units
