The Senior Manager of Data Science is responsible for enabling innovation across GDIT divisions and functional areas, fostering a culture of creativity, and identifying new opportunities to help our clients turn data into action. This role involves leading initiatives that challenge the status quo, encouraging new ways of thinking, and ensuring the successful execution of innovative projects. You will be responsible for performing scientific work associated with analytical, statistical, and programming abilities to collect, analyze, and interpret large data sets and develop data-driven solutions to difficult business challenges. Principle Duties and Responsibilities
- Lead cross-functional team of data scientists, software developers, and data engineers in the development and execution of high-impact innovation projects, ensuring they meet key performance metrics.
- Manage the development of data-driven solutions to difficult business challenges by working with cross-functional teams to understand business problems and data requirements.
- Identify emerging trends and disruptive technologies that can improve the operational efficiency of GDIT divisions and functional areas.
- Foster a culture of innovation, encouraging creative problem-solving and risk-taking.
- Develop and deploy machine learning models and data analysis methodologies that ensure consistency, accuracy, and integrity in data reporting
- Collaborate with team members to build, test, and improve predictive models.
- Establish and maintain a framework for data-driven decision-making across all departments
- Ensure collaboration between the data analysis team and other departments to support their data needs
- Write clear, maintainable, and reusable code for data extraction, analysis, and reporting.
- Assist in the integration of data pipelines for the efficient collection, processing, and storage of data.
- Work with cloud platforms (e.g., Azure, AWS, GCP) to implement scalable data science solutions.
- Utilizes advanced tools and computational skills to interpret, connect, predict, and make discoveries in complex data and deliver recommendations for business and analytic decisions
- Ensure compliance with data privacy regulations and security best practices
- Uses predictive modeling to increase and optimize stakeholder experiences, efficiencies, process improvements, and other business outcomes
- Act as a key point of contact for data analysis inquiries, ensuring clear communication and understanding of data insights
- Provide forecasting, trend analysis, and scenario modeling to anticipate business challenges and opportunities
- Responsible for managing and mentoring a team of data scientists while fostering a culture of learning and continuous improvement
Education and Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, Computer Science, or related field; Master’s degree preferred
- 5+ years of experience in data analysis
- Experience in leading teams
- Leadership and team-building skills, with experience managing cross-functional teams of data scientists, software developers, and data engineers
- Extensive experience in statistical analysis, data modeling, and business analytics
- Experience working with large datasets and performing complex analyses
- Strong understanding of emerging technologies, industry trends, and innovation methodologies.
- Experience with technical writing, documentation, version control and collaboration tools
- Ability to identify opportunities for innovation and convert them into actionable implementation plans
- Strong communication and presentation skills, with the ability to clearly articulate findings to both technical and non-technical audiences
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and adapt to changing priorities using agile frameworks
- Proven ability to work in a fast-paced, ambiguous environment and navigate complex organizational structures
- Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail and ability to work collaboratively
- Expert use of python programming language; familiarity with major open-source projects for modeling multiple data modalities
- Familiarity with at least one of the major cloud development and machine learning operations platforms (e.g., AWS, GCP, Azure).
- Strong understanding of business processes and the ability to align data initiatives with business objectives
- Proven experience working in agile environments, with understanding of agile principles and methodologies
- Identify and implement cost-effective data solutions focusing on minimizing expenses while maximizing value
