Job Description Summary:
In healthcare, governed data is more crucial than ever as we embrace transformative technologies like AI. As a member of the Data Governance Team, the Data Governance Engineer ensures our Analysts have the right data and sources to leverage these technologies, ultimately resulting in enhanced patient care and operational efficiencies.This role leverages your technical background and expertise in building robust data infrastructures and unified views of data for analysis and decision-making. You will ensure OhioHealth’s data catalog accurately reflects our large, diverse ecosystem, and that the data used by our Analysts, Developers, and Data Scientists is of high quality. This work enables the delivery of our mission and accelerates the achievement of our key goals and objectives across quality, service, finance, and culture. This role requires collaboration with our Technical Teams and the ability to work in a self-guided, problem-solving approach to drive large-scale change as OhioHealth adds data and digital capabilities to its core competencies.
The Data Governance Engineer reports to the Data Governance Senior Advisor and is a member of the Data & Analytics Team.
Responsibilities And Duties:
Integrate Data Governance PrinciplesCollaborate with the data governance team and technical SMEs to embed data governance principles into data systems and processes, ensuring compliance with data policies such as PHI data protection.Provide technical expertise in creating new data management process, including reference data management, master data management, and data quality.
Align the technical component of the data governance program with business operational objectives, supporting data stewardship and the data governance taxonomy.
Metadata and Data Quality ManagementOversee the integration and management of technical metadata, ensuring accuracy and currency.
Develop automated processes to ensure scalability and maintainability.
Implement and maintain data quality processes and rule creation within the data governance framework.
Metadata Integration, API Utilization and Process AutomationEnsure seamless integration of technical metadata from various sources to provide full data lineage, maintain consistency and accuracy, and support scalability, maintainability, and repeatability.
Create, maintain, and leverage APIs to extract metadata content for application monitoring and to connect data governance tools with BI platforms such as QlikSense.
Utilize tools like Automate to schedule and monitor jobs, ensuring optimal performance and resource usage.
Role / Permission Management and Application Monitoring / OptimizationCreate and maintain roles, permissions, privileges, and profile configurations specific to data governance toolset.
Monitor and optimize IPU usage via Informatica’s IDMC Administrator, Monitoring, and Insights services.
Implement creative solutions for managing and monitoring the technical aspects of applications supporting the data governance program where out-of-the-box options do not exist.
Troubleshooting, Root Cause Analysis, and Continuous LearningDrive root cause analysis for issues, ensuring scalability, maintainability, and repeatability in processes.
Collaborate with application vendors as needed.
Stay updated with new technologies and best practices, embracing a continuous learning mindset.
Contribute towards the overall success of The Data Governance ProgramProvide input on processes and procedures that support enterprise data management policies.
Partner with technical SMEs and InfoSec to review, identify, and manage data-related risks and issues.
Lead technical conversations with data governance leadership and advise on new capabilities of processes to support the data governance program.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree (Required)Additional Job Description:
- Degree in Computer Science, Information or related field; or combination of equivalent education and work experience.
- 10 + years of experience in data engineering and integration.
- Proficiency in Informatica ETL tools, SQL, APIs, and automation / scheduling tools.
- Experience with healthcare data for clinical, operational, billing or claims workflows.
- Epic Data Model Certification(s) or ability to obtain certification within 6 months of hire.
SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE
- Experience with data engineering, integration, ETL processes, and data governance.
- Proficient in scripting languages (e.g., SQL, Python) for querying and analyzing data.
- Experience with various data platforms, big data technologies, and diverse data sets.
- In-depth knowledge of healthcare data systems, preferably Epic.
- Strong troubleshooting skills, with the ability to identify and solve problems, and conduct root cause analysis.
- Experience with Informatica Cloud IDMC, automation, and job scheduling tools.
- Ability to diagnose data quality issues and advocate for usability improvements.
- Effective communication of technical information to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Ability to adapt to new technology and learn new skills as technology evolves.
- Experience in creating and maintaining APIs and using stored procedures.
- Ability to work independently with curiosity and initiative.
- Understanding of hospital-specific use cases and their business/technical requirement.

- Self-motivated, with the ability to set and drive technical direction successfully.
- Comfortable working in working in the gray as we define new processes.
- Curious and detail-oriented, with a focus on understanding the ‘whys’.
