About the Role
We are going through and exciting period of change and are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Data Engineer to join our Data Engineering team. You will be responsible for end to end development on the data platform, including test development, to ensure continued service delivery versus expectations. You will have understanding of all engineering stages for a data platform by providing an end-to-end, full stack data expertise from design to build. You will be a member of the team, helping to develop and mentor junior members as well as input into design and architectural decisions.
Responsibilities
- Responsible for providing direction to data engineers working on the data platform, including best practices, review and testing processes
- Provide engineering support as required to the data engineering resource within the delivery squads
- Responsible for ensuring we have the right data engineering resource on the programme, and they are properly onboarded and mentored
- Update job knowledge by studying state-of-the-art tools, programming techniques, and computing equipment and by participating in educational opportunities, reading professional publications, maintaining personal networks, and participating in professional organisations
- Provide information by collecting, analysing, and summarising development and service issues
- Support and develop data engineers by providing advice, coaching, and educational opportunities
What you'll bring
Skills & Experience
- Strong engineering background and proven experience in developing and maintaining large-scale distributed data processing systems or equivalent expertise.
- Extensive knowledge of data modelling principles, data quality assurance, testing methodologies, and best practices for data access and storage.
- Strong command of data scripting languages within our data ecosystem, including Python, SQL, and PySpark.
- Experience with Azure Databricks and DBT for building and optimising data pipelines and workflows.
- Experience in implementing cloud data solutions on at least one major cloud provider (Azure, AWS, or GCP)
- Knowledge around shortening development lead time and improving data development lifecycle
- Familiarity with Agile methodologies and working experience within Agile delivery frameworks
- Excellent command of English (written and spoken)
