The Position
We are seeking a Computational Chemist with a strong scientific background and expertise in drug discovery to join our world-class team. You will collaborate closely with medicinal chemists, biologists, structural biologists and other researchers to advance NCE drug discovery projects (small molecules, peptides and other modalities) from concept to candidate selection.You are a team player, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills who thrives in multidisciplinary environments. Your proactivity and understanding of the wider research context allows you to pose the right questions, perform the key computational experiments and contribute to projects beyond your technical domain. Moreover, you are always on the lookout for emerging computational chemistry methods to enhance our predictive performance.
Tasks & responsibilities
- You will perform target assessment and propose suitable therapeutic modalities.
- As Senior Scientist you will be co-responsible for defining and executing the hit finding and hit follow-up strategies.
- As a member of interdisciplinary project teams, you will proactively contribute to research projects with state-of-the-art computational chemistry methods and will share accountability for the design and optimization of lead compounds.
- Furthermore, you will collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary teams, communicating results and recommendations clearly to colleagues with diverse expertise.
- In coordination with the global Computational Chemistry team and IT, you will support and lead initiatives that implement and validate innovative computational workflows to solve complex problems in drug discovery.
- You will stay curious with the latest developments in computational chemistry, cheminformatics, and drug discovery, bringing new tools and methods into the team.
- In addition, you will coach post-docs, initiating, and supervising academic collaborations.
- Publishing in peer-reviewed journals will be part of your new role.
- As Principal Scientist, you will be able to act as medicinal chemistry project lead, guiding and coordinating multidisciplinary teams all the way to lead optimization.
- You will identify and lead computational chemistry and interdepartmental initiatives to accelerate and expand our discovery capabilities.
Requirements
- Ph.D. in Computational Chemistry, physics, computer science or related discipline
- Solid scientific background and practical experience on physics-based computational methods and/or machine learning techniques
- Demonstrated experience in multidisciplinary projects in drug discovery – industry experience would be an advantage
- Deep expertise in molecular modeling and chemoinformatics tools, as well as molecular recognition and molecular and drug design principles
- Proven ability to work effectively as part of multidisciplinary teams in a collaborative environment
- Proficiency in coding/scripting/pipelining (e.g., python, bash, knime) for workflow automation and data analysis
- Strong understanding of medicinal chemistry and pharmacology
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to present complex data clearly to non-specialists
- Fluency in English, written and spoken
- Long-term industry experience
- Experience leading projects will be an advantage
