For years, our awe-inspiring viral videos on YouTube have shown the world what remarkably capable robots can do. Now we are quickly becoming a recognized leader in automation solutions for industrial applications and warehouse logistics. 

The Team:

The Software Intern, Compute R&D will work on the Central Software team. Our team works to accelerate efforts across all robotics projects at Boston Dynamics. We do this by identifying and rapidly experimenting with new cutting-edge technologies that have the potential to underpin future Boston Dynamics robots.  In this role you will be paired with a senior developer who will mentor you as you collaborate on different projects.

Your main role will be as a software developer researching next-generation compute and communication. Depending on your skills, there are opportunities to contribute in many areas, such as:

  • Accelerated computing

  • Machine Learning (ML) / Reinforcement Learning (RL) inference at the edge

  • Systems software spanning behavior, control, and communications.

Day to day activities:

  • Design, write, analyze, and debug code

  • Work within a team to gather, refine, and document requirements

  • Work alongside end-users to ensure delivered software meets needs

  • Communicate designs and progress with the larger team

Desired skills:

  • Students enrolled in a PhD program in Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or Robotics

  • Strong C++ skills (bonus points for CUDA, OpenCL, and other acceleration languages)

  • Familiarity with development tools, such as git and debuggers

  • Interest and experience with some aspect of robotics, including perception, machine learning, algorithms, optimization and/or accelerated computing
