Join our Big Data Methodology & Computations team and become a key contributor to the future of Media Audience Measurement. As a Senior Data Scientist, you will:
Become a subject matter expert in US TV Audience Measurement.
Drive Client Acceptance: Conduct custom analyses using your investigative skills and deep understanding of Nielsen’s data and proprietary big data models to demonstrate the value and validity of our data science methodologies, promoting client acceptance.
Develop & Enhance Methodologies: Strategically select data, lgorithms/models, and tools to achieve business objectives related to the integration of big data assets from set-top boxes and smart TVs into Nielsen’s accredited TV audience measurement products.

Innovate in Media Measurement: Contribute to cutting-edge research and deploy advanced methodologies in the dynamic media audience measurement industry.Enhance Technical Expertise: Optimize codebases, build simulation environments and pipelines, and conduct research to improve audience measurement estimates.Develop Data Science Skills: Gain comprehensive experience across the data science workflow and product lifecycle, from methodology development and analysis to automation and scalable code development.Bridge Data Science and Business Impact: Work at the intersection of data science theory, applied statistics, and business impact, translating complex measurement methodologies into effective products that meet the needs of the media industry.The ideal candidate will have a strong desire to understand all aspects of Nielsen data, grow their technical and statistical skills, and understand our clients’ needs to produce methodologies that provide the best audience measurement solution available in the industry. 

Responsibilities

  • Become a US TV Audience Measurement expert, focusing on data science methodologies for big data and panel integrations
  • Conduct research and analytics to validate methodologies, identify trends, discrepancies, and opportunities for methodological improvements; troubleshoot and resolve issues
  • Own custom analyses in response to clients’ inquiries, driving acceptance and adoption of Nielsen methodologies
  • Develop reproducible data science pipelines, focusing on statistical/machine learning model development, validation, and deployment using a balance of theoretical research and practical application, ensuring methodologies are both scientifically defensible and scalable for production use
  • Work with cross-functional, global teams to productionize, validate, refine and defend methodologies
  • Maintain data science best practices in software development, including documentation, reproducibility, and version control
  • Champion a team environment of continuous learning and collaborative innovation
  • Adopt the “Nielsen Way” and live Nielsen’s values of Inclusion, Courage and Growth

Skills

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree, or equivalent experience, in a quantitative research field (computer science, data science, statistics, mathematics, biological/physical/social sciences, etc.)
  • 3-5 years of professional experience in code development and research 
  • Experience processing and modeling large datasets with Python using machine learning techniques including clustering, classification, regression, anomaly detection, and simulation 
  • Strong expertise using SQL for querying and analyzing large datasets within a data lake environment
  • Competence in using data visualization tools (Tableau, R Shiny, Plotly) to clearly and beautifully communicate data insights
  • Familiarity with Spark, git, AWS (S3 and EC2) and Databricks
  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate successfully with colleagues from different functional areas and geographical locations with varying technical expertise
  • Strong problem solving and critical thinking skills
  • Excellent English verbal and written communication skills 
  • Outstanding statistical and analytical skills
