Senior Manager Data Engineer

What you will do

The External Supply Organization is seeking a highly motivated individual to drive the systematic utilization of data, analytics, artificial intelligence, and automation across all aspects of the business to reduce costs, increase speed, and improve efficiency. The scope of the organization includes Raw Materials, Devices, Contract Development Manufacturing and Portfolio Strategy & Execution functions. As part of the External Supply Team, the Sr. Manager will lead a team of data engineers and data scientists that will collaborate with business leaders to design and implement business process automations and advance projects and strategic deliverables for External Supply Operations.

Responsibilities:

  • Strategically plan and implement the digital roadmap for External Supply

  • Collaborate with IT, supply chain, operations, and product management teams to translate business requirements into technical solutions

  • Promote the utilization of artificial intelligence and the newest technologies available in the organization

  • Identify and evaluate technology and business trends to improve product outcomes

  • Lead and mentor a team of data engineers and data scientists

  • Review and approve products before their release

  • Develop and complete proof of concepts (POCs) for new methodologies

  • Plan product releases and set expectations with customers for new functionality

  • Apply advanced analytics to extract insights from complex datasets

  • Understand data governance frameworks, tools, and best practices

  • Drive automation and process improvement within the External Supply Organization

  • Align solutions with company strategy, cyber security standards, and operating procedures

  • Optimize AWS and Databricks infrastructure for optimal performance

  • Maintain product uptime and performance

  • Identify and implement opportunities to automate tasks and develop reusable frameworks

  • Advise the organization about new technologies and automation opportunities

Basic Qualifications:

  • Doctorate degree and 2 years of  data science and/or engineering experience
    OR
    Master’s degree and 4 years of data science and/or engineering experience
    OR
    Bachelor’s degree and 6 years of data science and/or engineering experience
    OR
    Associate’s degree and 10 years data science and/or engineering experience
    OR
    High school diploma / GED and 12 years of data science and/or engineering experience

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5+ years in data science or data engineering with a supply chain or transactional organization focus

  • PhD/Master's in Data Science, Computer Science, or Industrial Engineering

  • Experience with one or more agile software development methodologies

  • Proficient in data visualization tools such as Tableau and Power BI

  • Strong proficiency in one or more of the following technologies: SQL, Java, Python programming languages, JavaScript web application framework (such as ReactJS)

  • Experience with relational databases and SQL

  • Familiarity with AWS services related to compute and storage, such as EC2, S3, Lambda, ECS, or Batch

  • Experience working in a regulated environment (e.g., cGMP, Safety, SOX, import/export, etc.) and familiarity with GMP and GDP quality systems/processes such as change control, non-conformances, CAPAs, and qualifications/validation

  • Understand Supply Chain systems and processes including ERP-SAP, Rapid Response, and pharmaceutical regulations

  • High learning agility, innovation, and analytical skills

  • Ability to collaborate and influence business partners to drive projects end-to-end.

  • Experience working as a Scrum master or in product teams

  • Proficiency in Python, SQL, PySpark, and Scala for data processing and ETL workflows, with experience in Databricks

  • Solid understanding of data modeling, data warehousing, and data integration concepts

  • Experience managing and mentoring data science teams

  • Proficient in SQL for extracting, transforming, and analyzing complex datasets from relational data stores

  • Proficient in JavaScript web application framework, such as ReactJS

  • Familiarity with the use of AI for development productivity, such as GitHub Copilot, Databricks Assistant, Amazon Q Developer, or equivalent

  • Experience with software engineering best practices, including but not limited to version control (Git, Subversion, etc.), automated unit testing, and DevOps

  • Experience with AWS, Databricks, or Azure cloud services

  • Experience with infrastructure as code, unit, and integration testing frameworks

The expected annual salary range for this role in the U.S. (excluding Puerto Rico) is posted. Actual salary will vary based on several factors including but not limited to, relevant skills, experience, and qualifications.
