What you will be doing

In this role, the Consultant, Data Governance Audit will report to the Director, Data Governance Audit, and will be expected to have experience and knowledge in Data Governance that includes Data Governance organization, Data Governance processes related to metadata, data quality and data sharing, Data Governance best practices, tools and training, Data Governance risks and controls, Management and validation of data governance concerns and deficiencies. The incumbent will support audits by evaluating data governance controls and processes across the organization, and help management validate and report any deficiencies while working with partners to manage risks effectively. Provide consulting to other Internal Audit teams to ensure proper coverage of data governance risks during audits, and offer insights and advice to management. Ensure all work is performed and documented according to CIBC’s Internal Audit methodology, taking responsibility for the quality of audit procedures and documentation

The role leverages knowledge of data governance and audit methodology to execute data governance audits, ensuring quality results within timelines and budgets. It requires independent judgment to build effective relationships with business partners and promote understanding of expectations and risks. Additionally, the role provides practical advice to management on enhancing internal controls. It serves as the resident auditing expert for data governance at CIBC.

How you can succeed

  • Consulting -  Contribute to the advancement of the Data Governance Audit Program and provide input for data risk in various audits. Be able to demonstrate in-depth understanding of data governance and management, including changes to the regulatory and business environments.

  • Execute audits - Participate or manage the audit execution of enterprise data audits within the portfolio. Ensure the audit engagements maintain thorough and high quality results within defined audit plans and budgets. Provide leading edge audit services, and ensure identification of emerging risks.

  • Manage validation – Validate plans, responses and artifacts provided by management in response to deficiencies for mitigating risk for the bank

  • Facilitate communication - Communicate trends in risk and control issues to Internal Audit management and contribute to reports to senior management on the results of ongoing reviews of data risk, records management and other data related risks across CIBC.

Who you are

  • You can  demonstrate 1-3 years of Data governance experience, having a broad and deep knowledge of Data governance requirements, concepts, tools, processes and controls applicable to a large organization and as they relate to other risks such as technology, cybersecurity, privacy, records management and regulatory.

  • You can have 2-5 years of experience and/or knowledge of auditing practices, procedures and principles that enable you to analyze and review business processes, assess risks, and validate deficiency remediation. You must have proven ability to write comprehensive and concise deficiencies and reports that have been utilized by senior leadership.

  • You have or you are working towards a current accreditation in one of the following (or equivalent): In-depth knowledge or certification in Data Governance such as DCAM (Data Capability Assessment Maturity), CDMP (Certified Data Management Professional), CISA - Certified Information Systems Auditor etc.
