Summary of the Role

The Virtual ECU and Full ADAS/AD System Simulation Software Architect is a key Domain expert role inside HARMAN’s Intelligent Cockpit Business Unit and acts as a mediator between engineers, stakeholders, and users/customers. In this role You take shared ownership on various levels of ECU Simulation and/or Full ADAS/AD System Simulation Middleware / OS (Operating System) / Hypervisor, SW platform and Products such as Central Compute with focus on ADAS/AD L3 systems including future technology and development processes.

This role owns and defines the ADAS/AD Virtual ECU and/or Full System Simulation part of the Harman Central Compute Product for Following Domain Consolidations: ADAS/AD, Digital Cockpit and Body Domain as a future candidate for domain consolidation on software platform middleware tailored towards Harman chosen Hypervisor and OS combo derived from Harman’s strategy given by senior leadership team. This is an ideal opportunity to solve a wide range of technical challenges including driving hardware agnostic SW development targeted towards the realization of the embedded part of a SW Defined Vehicle.

The role will act as the ‘go-to person’ for Virtual ECU and full system simulation architectural topics within platforms, RFI’s, RFQ’s, and projects. This role is considered as the bridge between the development teams, program management, customer, and other Harman SBUs. You will make and own decisions and consequences of simulation SW design on an organizational level. The role reports to Department leader for ADAS/AD Domain Architecture.

A hybrid work-environment with working from home and in office is an integral part of this role.


What You Will Do

  • Define, design, and align the ADAS/AD Simulation software architecture for Central Compute Controller / infotainment-oriented systems with ADAS capabilities and digital cockpits of the next generation for given product lines and beyond
  • Take shared ownership of cross-functional, conceptual requirements towards simulation of Multi Domain Controller with respect to OS/Middleware, the embedded operating system of the Harman Multi Domain Controller
  • Design Simulation SW Framework to implement ADAS ECU/MCU Virtualization using vVIRTUALtarget and QEMU
  • Enable Simulation SW Framework for Multi Domain Controller SW-Technical Safety Case derived from high level Functional Safety Case
  • Design Simulation SW using Vector Testing Tool Framework or vVIRTUALtarget to develop Virtual MCU
  • Design Full system Simulation Network to bring multiple instances of QEMU and VTT to communicate with each other through Software-in-Loop Kit Adapter based on Vector SW 
  • Analyze, define, and refine requirements, to the sustainable implementation and documentation of Harman central computer simulation and associated Products involved / hosted on the central compute product
  • Develop the current/ target architecture Simulation steps to enable rapid prototyping of SW before silicon tape out for products, services, and the entire platform ecosystem of Central Compute
  • Anticipate E/E software architecture trends in the automotive market to derive and define the Simulation software architecture roadmap for Strategic Business Unit ADAS. Closely align the roadmap with the Tech and Innovation Lead

What You Need

  • Successfully completed studies in the field of computer science and technology 
  • Deep understanding of embedded hardware, networking, and ability to write testable, robust embedded application software in real time OS or on embedded Linux/QNX
  • At least 20 years of automotive embedded systems experience post bachelor studies and at-least 10+ years of simulation SW Architecture / ECU Virtualization design based on Linux / QNX / AUTOSAR Classic / Adaptive including but not limited to the fields of communication, network management, status management, storage management, diagnosis, safety, and security
  • Product Architecting experience with T profile with Expert Depth being simulation SW Architecture with focus on ADAS/AD Multi Model Sensor Fusion Perception and control algos and Domain breadth being rapid prototyping of Virtual ECUs
  • Product Architecting experience with T profile with Expert Depth being Virtual ECU SW Architecture with focus on ADAS/AD SOCs and Domain breadth being rapid prototyping of ADAS/AD Full System Simulation
  • Architecting multiple OS multiple Domain SW architectures within ADAS/AD and Digital Cockpit
  • Advanced practical experience with several programming languages such as C, C++
  • Safety experience with ASIL-D
  • Python and embedded environments paired with solid understanding of DDS Architectures
  • Experienced with computing in vehicle communication models (vehicle, IPC, cloud)
  • Excellent communication skills in English
  • Problem solver who can handle both cross functional leadership and be an Individual contributor if required   

What is Nice to Have

  • Experience in SIL KIT open source
  • Architecting multiple SW simulation Solutions in an Agile way of working along with expertise in leadership / ownership of multiple solution trains
  • Functional safety simulation architecture know how is required due to involvement of products which are rated for Time critical safety relevant behavior
  • Automotive peripheral virtualization / mockup expertise is a plus
