​ The Manager of Business Intelligence drives the optimization of marketplace efficiency and strategic initiatives. This includes identifying and researching business opportunities for existing business units, leading competitive and market research, and developing business intelligence strategies. This role supports OPENLANE Marketplace platforms, including both Private Label and Open Marketplace, through strategic business and product development efforts, while also serving as a key advisor and consultant to the senior leadership team.

A critical aspect of this position involves directing primary and secondary research efforts, as well as competitive and business intelligence initiatives, to enhance OPENLANE Marketplace's understanding of the automotive industry and other trends impacting the wholesale remarketing sector. The resulting insights and analyses will be communicated to internal and external stakeholders, guiding the strategic vision of OPENLANE Auction Services, Inc., and influencing business and product development, merger and acquisition activities, and long-term strategic planning. This leadership role also entails managing and mentoring a team of technical analysts, ensuring high-quality deliverables and fostering professional growth.


Duties/Responsibilities

  • Co-Own Business Results: Assume ownership of key business metrics, including conversion rates, sales figures, and customer retention, leveraging data-driven insights to drive measurable improvements in marketplace performance.

  • Market Research & Optimization: Analyze supply and demand dynamics to enhance market efficiency, improve liquidity, and maximize buyer and seller engagement. Conduct thorough industry and competitive research to identify emerging trends and growth opportunities.

  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner closely with product and engineering teams to align business requirements with technical solutions, ensuring data infrastructure and BI insights directly support strategic initiatives.

  • Data-Driven Insights & Communication: Extract key business insights and translate them into actionable strategies through comprehensive reports, dashboards, and presentations, thereby influencing decision-making across various teams.

  • Strategic Business Growth: Identify new market opportunities, evaluate competitive positioning, and contribute to long-term strategic planning to expand market share and enhance customer experience.

  • Operational & Process Improvement: Conduct detailed analyses of capacity utilization, operational efficiency, and cost optimization, driving continuous improvement in business operations.

  • BI Leadership & Governance: Lead and mentor a team of BI analysts, oversee the development of scalable data models and visualizations, and enforce best practices in data governance to ensure data integrity and usability.

  • Technology & Data Infrastructure: Evaluate and implement cutting-edge BI tools and technologies to enhance data accessibility, accuracy, and efficiency, while maintaining a sustainable and scalable infrastructure.

This role is ideally suited for a results-oriented, strategic thinker with a passion for leveraging data to drive business outcomes, optimize marketplace performance, and significantly impact conversion, sales, and retention metrics.



Qualifications/Requirements


Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, or Finance; Master’s degree or MBA strongly preferred.

  • 5+ years of experience in data-driven consulting, strategic planning, or analytics, demonstrating a track record of driving business impact through BI and data science.

  • 3+ years of experience in experimental research, strategic planning, or management consulting, preferably within a marketplace-driven environment.

Technical Skills & Expertise

  • Strong foundation in data science, experimental design, A/B testing, and causal inference for business optimization.

  • Experience with predictive modeling, segmentation, and trend analysis to improve conversion, sales, and retention.

  • Proficiency in AWS, Snowflake (data modeling, transformation), and Domo (dashboards, visualization).

  • Advanced SQL skills for querying, transforming, and optimizing large datasets.

  • Strong Python (or R) skills for statistical modeling, automation, and data analysis.

  • Thorough understanding of data governance, experiment tracking, and best practices in data modeling.

Business Acumen & Problem-Solving

  • Proven ability to design and analyze experiments with statistical rigor to measure business impact.

  • Ability to identify trends, diagnose inefficiencies, and develop data-driven strategies for marketplace optimization.

  • Experience in bridging business needs with engineering solutions through collaboration with product, data engineering, and operations teams.

  • Excellent communication skills, capable of translating complex data insights into actionable business recommendations.

Soft Skills & Leadership

  • Exceptional written, verbal, and presentation skills for both technical and business audiences.

  • Experience mentoring BI analysts and data scientists, fostering a culture of experimentation and innovation.

  • Highly motivated self-starter who thrives in fast-paced, evolving environments and drives continuous improvement.

Compensation Range of

Annual Salary: $110,000.00 - $135,000.00

(Depending on experience, skill set, qualifications, and other relevant factors.)
