The LCCI (Lilly Capability Centre India) BI&A (Business Insights & Analytics) team was started in 2017 with the objective of supporting business decisions for the commercial and marketing functions in the US and ex-US affiliates. This team is part of the LCCI - Commercial Services organization and works very closely with the BI&A team based in Indianapolis (HQ).

Data science capabilities are critical to the BI&A objective of supporting business decisions, and the team has grown over the past two years. This individual will have two key sets of responsibility. Their first key role is to provide local, technical oversight of impact model and personalization initiatives. As part of this, the individual will need to have high learning agility to understand the current process, datasets, and models. They will need to be able to partner effectively across geographies to prioritize and resource the individual workstreams supporting these two initiatives. Secondly, this individual will lead a team of data science professionals, supporting their technical and professional growth and serving as their first resource for day-to-day issues.

Core Responsibilities:

As part of the data science team, this individual will work with various stakeholders to structure, assign, and monitor data science work across a team of data science experts.

Technical Leadership Expectations:

  • Demonstrate high learning agility in understanding the impact model and personalization initiatives
  • Efficiently delegate work across their data science team
  • Partner effectively with a cross functional team, including data engineering, data analytics, and machine learning operations
  • Prioritize new development work and ongoing maintenance based on business value, estimated effort, and individual skills and/or development goals
  • Implement a standardized framework for communication, project management and execution
  • Build, deliver and own a quality management framework to increase deliverable quality

People Leadership Expectations:

  • Directly manage a team of data scientists
  • Triage day-to-day issues for team members as their first point of contact
  • Create and implement upskilling plans for LCCI team members
  • Serve as trusted career advisor, and work with Functional Leadership and HR to identify career opportunities for these team members, both systemically (career path development) and with individuals as needed
  • Develop a pipeline of analytics talent and leadership, and contribute to an inclusive community of analytics expert practitioners

Required Skills and Expertise:

  • Quantitative background in engineering, statistics, mathematics, econometrics, operations research, or computer science
  • Minimum of 5 years relevant leadership experience
  • Demonstrated ability to work with both technical and business-oriented stakeholders to drive high quality outcomes
  • Strong analytical skills coupled with business acumen, and an ability to think strategically in an ambiguous environment
  • Extensive program/project management experience
  • Proficiency in R/Python and SQL
  • Deep experience with statistical & machine learning models for regression, classification, and optimization

Preferred Skills:

  • Hands-on experience building models using statistical and machine learning techniques
  • Experience with pharmaceutical datasets as well as other digital data for Healthcare / Retail / BFSI / Digital native companies
  • Familiarity with cloud technology and AWS services for analytics
