DevOps Intern

TouchNet, a Global Payments Company, is seeking a SRE Intern for summer 2025. This program will be a full 40 hour-a-week schedule, with some schedule flexibility within. This is an hourly, paid position.

Qualifications

Applicants in their Sophomore, Junior or Senior undergraduate program – including programs in software engineering, computer science, IT business or adjacent, Data Analytics, Data Science or similar – will be considered. Must have:

  • Interest in learning IT/software engineering practices and methodologies. This particular position would also be involved in understanding how and what type of data Touchnet applications collect, their relationships, data flows and putting context/meaning to the data in order to help derive intelligence or just giving a better data reporting tool.

  • Expectation of hands-on, technical work assignments – such as writing user stories, diagramming schema and data workflows, writing SQL queries for analysis and participating in code reviews. Writing technical documents as well as project documents, which will be used not just as a tool to communicate but also a tool to think clearly.  Training on these skill sets will be included in the program.

  • Openness to learning development tools – such as software ticketing systems (Atlassian Jira or Rally), technical documentation (such as Swagger API), diagramming tools (Lucid Charts, schema diagramming), BigQuery, Airflow/Composer, Looker for visualization and code repositories (primarily GIT, VSTS). 

  • Drive to self-initiate learning, project and training opportunities – within a well-supported team environment.

  • Rising Sophomore to Graduate Students currently enrolled in a college or university.

  • Must be available June 2, 2025 - August 8, 2025

  • Interns must be willing to attend a two-day orientation on Eastern Standard Time

Responsibilities

Our DevOps Intern will be responsible for designing, implementing and testing the automation of infrastructure and processes. These individuals are proficient in concepts such as infrastructure-as-code, deployment orchestration and application tooling. There will be specialization in specific areas, such as processes, e.g. CI/CD, or specific platforms, e.g. Microsoft Azure or Google Cloud. These individuals should be well versed in modern agile delivery concepts such as Kanban, Scrum, etc.

  • Position will learn general software development practices, including Agile methodologies, rituals, scrum and Kanban. Intern will participate in solution design/grooming processes, project estimation, scrum practices and sprint planning/retros/demos within a data product development environment.

  • Intern may rotate through scrum teams to allow for exposure to a variety of technologies based upon ability and interest – including but not limited to Java, Python and SQL code development, RESTful service and API design, data analysis, Big Query, Airflow/ Composer, Looker development, ReactJS front end development, and Point-of-Sale device hardware.

  • Intern will interface with the Product team to assist in project ideation, requirements gathering and formulation, and roadmapping/release planning.
