We are seeking a Data Engineer to join our team and support our Department of Homeland Security (DHS) customer in the Washington DC metro area.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Responsible for designing and building systems to collect and process data (and events) at massive scale. The data is used for a variety of purposes from business insights to application(s) monitoring.
- Conducts and coordinates the design and implementation of software development to meet user requirements.
- Develop data ingestion pipelines to ingest and process streaming data at massive scale.
- Performs quality assurance activities such as peer reviews.
- Support Operations and Maintenance (O&M) tasks for all application programs and assist with analyzing and troubleshooting production issues.
- Analyze business requirements and create technical specifications, develop unit test plans to verify functionality of new and/ or revised applications.
- Develops technical design specifications for application development.
- Help guide the work of Junior Data Engineers.
Work Experience and Job Skills:
- 10+ years of experience in complete software development lifecycle using Agile methodologies.
- 7+ years of experience with Python/Java development.
- 3+ years of experience with batch-oriented processing and streaming distributed processing methods such as Spark and Kafka.
- 3+ years of experience with data flow orchestration using tools like Airflow, Mage-AI.
- 1+ years of experience with any distributed NoSQL/Key-Value stores such as HBase.
- Experience with distributed search engines like Elasticsearch or Apache Solr is a plus.
- Restful web services experience with code development, deployment, versioning, and build tools (e.g. Eclipse, Git, Gradle, Maven, Jenkins).
- 5+ years of experience with Relational Database Systems and SQL/NoSQL.
- 1+ years of experience developing containerized applications using Docker, Docker Swarm, Kubernetes.
- Understanding of Microservices architecture, including professional experience in the design, build, and operations of micro services in a production environment.
- Experience delivering solutions using Amazon Web Services (AWS EC2, Lambdas, RDS, S3, VPC).
- Knowledge and experience in software development with the above identified technologies.
- Comprehensive problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail.
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Systems, Engineering or other related discipline is required.
Certificates, Licenses & Registrations:
- This federal program requires the candidates to be a United States Citizen.
- DHS Public Trust and/or DOD TS clearance is preferred.
- Qualified applicants may be subject to a security investigation and must meet minimum qualifications for access to classified information.
Communication Skills:
- Excellent communication, personal, and governance skills.
- Solid ability to interface, inspire and motivate at various levels of the organization.
- Ability to convey technical information to non-technical individuals.
- Demonstrated experience communicating effectively across internal and external organizations.
Travel:
- This is a Hybrid position.
Environmental Requirements:
- Mainly sedentary; in an office environment.
- May be required to lift up to ten (10) pounds
- Flexible in working extended hours.
