Context: 
Our company develops multiple software solutions for system modeling, safety analysis, and critical software development. These solutions store their data in various graph-structured files as models. Each of these files represents a different view of the same system (e.g., an aircraft) under design and engineering. 

Our R&D teams have initiated work on applying the multi-criteria score-based recommender system approach presented in the literature12 to a structured file describing system models. The objective is to provide recommendations for new elements to complete an existing model. We now seek to extend this approach to different types of files, such as safety analysis descriptions and software descriptions. 

 

Technical Details: 

  • The files, representing models, have a graph-structured format. 

  • They are aggregated into a Neo4j graph database that serves as a knowledge repository. 

  • A back-end solution, implemented as a Java Spring Boot application, queries the graph, computes individual scores, aggregates scores, and delivers recommendations through an API. 

  • The reading and parsing of different model files are handled using an Eclipse Modeling Framework (EMF) metamodel. 

 

Mission: 
The selected candidate will: 

  • Understand the existing approach by reading scientific publications and analyzing the developed codebase. 

  • Define a new score for the multi-criteria score-based recommender system and integrate it into the existing solution. 

  • Comprehend the semantics of the new type of file to be supported. 

  • Develop a graph aggregator for the new file type to populate the Neo4j database. 

  • Define the complete set of scores necessary to generate recommendations for this new type of file. 

This work will take place in an international industrial context, eventually requiring regular interactions with teams based in Europe and the USA. 

 

Required Skills: 

  • Ability to read and communicate in scientific and technical English. 

  • Knowledge of graph structures (experience with Neo4j is a plus). 

  • Ability to define mathematical computation functions (e.g., to produce a normalized score between 0 and 1). 

  • Proficiency in Java development with clean coding practices. 

  • Curiosity and autonomy in work. 

This internship offers an opportunity to contribute to an advanced recommender system applied to critical systems modeling. The candidate will gain hands-on experience in graph databases, machine learning techniques for recommendation, and industrial software development.
