Position Overview
The Process Data Analytics Engineer is, in collaboration with other (technical and manufacturing) disciplines within and outside the department, responsible for the provision of process & maintenance improvements at the factory, based on data from inline analytical technologies (detectors, sensors and analyzers inside and outside the steel) and/or mathematical tools and expertise, such as multivariate analysis, process modelling and/or machine learning tools.
Improvements will mainly be related to the “Plant of The Future”, such as automation and digitalization to improve the production of the products (e.g. by increasing yield or reducing utility usage), as improving safety & environmental aspects and reducing plant maintenance.
The Process Data Analytics Engineer provides professional sustainable solutions which generate value for the Hexion business and enables continuous improvement of existing plants in line with Hexion’s needs.
Solutions might be based on machine learning and built-in process data analytical tools, enablers to build further towards the Plant of the Future (related to Industry 4.0/5.0).
Job Responsibilities
- Defines, plans and executes Process Improvement projects for existing processes in collaboration with other (technical) disciplines in line with priorities as set by direct manager who will align with stakeholders (e.g. Process Improvement Manager, Operations Manager, Technical Manager, Site Manager and/or Business).
- Demonstrates good chemical engineering skills and capability to:
- Prepare/review/assess mass- heat balances,
- Perform analysis of heat transfer and scale down/up,
- Compare/assess reaction kinetics versus mass transfer
- Thermodynamic principles in separations
- Solve complex problems.
- Capable of handling Multi Variate data
- And having a critical attitude with respect to data
- Skilled in developing SMART control concepts based on good chemical engineering understanding making use of multiple process variables, (new and existing) in-line analytical techniques, chemometric models, existing plant models and data historian and can include wet-lab/offline analytical data.
- Expert in big data analysis and the use of appropriate tools & techniques, such as with data historian and multivariate analysis tools or other correlation techniques or neural networks, machine learning tools e.g. for production process ‘’sweet spot identification’’, early event detection, automation opportunities, etcetera.
- Good project management skills
- Executes projects with a good problem definition/well-defined scope and which includes the voice of the (internal) customer.
- Understanding the big picture; can critically evaluate data, understanding problems, translating data towards objective conclusions and opportunities (distinguish which information is must versus nice to have). Able to generate a work breakdown (what activities, by who and when) for each project (project management)
- Skills to present projects in enthusiastic/convincing manner at technical and business level.
- Experience with reporting project results in compliance with department standards on knowledge management (reports and accessible mathematical models).
- Understanding of Process Safety Management aspects of manufacturing processes
- High safety awareness and acting proactive on safety issues
- Good understanding of in-line analytical techniques to come, together with Process Analytical Technologies expert locally present, to optimal solutions for the production processes
- Good understanding of plant process control mechanisms
- Ensures intellectual property protection and safeguards that this is applied during project work, including in customer (internal/external) and vendor contacts/communication
Education/Qualifications
- Master's degree (Chemical Technology /Chemical Engineering)
- Must have Process Technology understanding, preferably Plant & Asset experience, but minimal affinity with this type of process technology related work and minimal affinity with process analytical technology.
- More than 5 years of (additional) working experience in Chemical Industry
- Good communication skills, verbally and in writing in Dutch and English, able to connect with all layers in the organization.
- Experience and skills in following areas is a plus:
- Machine Learning (ML) tools and Multi Variate Analysis techniques
- Utilizing simulation tools & techniques in process Modelling (such as Aspen Plus) in projects
