The Role
As a Data Science Intern, you will be part of the Discovery Data Science team at Genmab, focusing on the development and evaluation of machine learning methods for characterizing chemical compounds. Additionally, you will contribute to a project supporting the new Chemistry Lab by applying machine learning and AI to analyze chemical compounds, particularly payloads used in ADCs. This project aims to identify key characteristics of compounds in silico, reducing the need for unnecessary lab experiments. The specific research questions are still being defined, offering flexibility for you to shape the project based on your expertise and interests.
Responsibilities
- Research, develop, and evaluate machine learning methods for characterizing chemical compounds.
- Implement and test developed algorithms on diverse datasets to assess their effectiveness.
- Conduct a literature review to explore the current landscape of in-silico chemical screening for ADCs.
- Analyze open-source and in-house datasets to extract meaningful insights.
- Collaborate with R&D teams and the Chemistry Lab to integrate new methods into existing analysis workflows.
- Support the development of ML models to refine chemical screening strategies and optimize experimental workflows.
- Document research findings, algorithm developments, and test results comprehensively.
Requirements
- Enrolled in a Master’s program in Computer Science, AI, Bioinformatics, Chemistry, or a related field at an HBO/University in the Netherlands.
- Experience with Python programming.
- Strong interest in machine learning, data analysis, and algorithm development.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Previous programming experience, ideally with the development of your own package.
Preferred Qualifications, Capabilities, and Skills
- Knowledge of AI techniques applied to chemical compound characterization.
- Experience with biomedical or chemical research datasets.
- Familiarity with ADCs.
- Previous industry experience or internship in a related field.
General Intern Information
- Internship duration: 6-12 months.
- Start date: September 1st.
- Location: Utrecht, Netherlands.
- Hybrid schedule: 3 days in the office, 2 days remote per week.
