Manager, Software Engineering & Machine Learning, Operations Risk Compliance (ORC) Science

The Operations Risk Compliance team enables Amazon worldwide to conduct compliant and safe operations at scale. This is a huge challenge considering the complexity of Amazon's variety of technology to manage in combination with the rapid growth of the company. The team automates the manual classification process through technical solutions that rely heavily on machine learning models. We partner closely with business, operations and tech teams worldwide to deliver complex, ambitious roadmaps with the customer's goal in mind. We leverage off the sciences of data, information processing, machine learning, and generative AI to improve user experience, automation, service resilience, and operational efficiency. Our work expands AI-driven capabilities of our Retail businesses.

We are seeking a successful Software Dev Manager to lead our efforts in automating the classification of our entire worldwide selection within regulatory classes. The Software Development Manager will work with stakeholders from multiple business units to gather requirements to develop and deploy the next generation of classification models.

The Software Dev manager will lead a 2-pizzas team comprising Machine Learning Engineers, Software Engineers , Applied Scientists and will be the single threaded owner of of high impact Machine Learning solutions that we are building. It is a green field as those solutions still need to be built. The business problems at hand present exciting scientific and enginerring challenges, ranging from driving the right research to working under constraint of high throughput inferences. If done well, the work the impact of the work will be counted in hundreds of millions of dollars.

Beside strong engineering knowledge and business knowledge, basic ML knowledge we are looking for candidate with exceptional managerial and communication skills; to be able to lead a high performing cross-functional team to higher successes.



Key job responsibilities
- Lead an ML product team comprising of Engineers and Applied Scientists
- Act as a coach and grow the team members
- Deliver development and deployment of ML models into production system to automatically classify Amazon's selection within the different regulatory classes.
- Drive Software and Engineering best practices

Basic Qualifications

- Knowledge of engineering practices and patterns for the full software/hardware/networks development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, certification, and livesite operations
- Experience in engineering team management
- Experience in engineering
- Experience in leading the definition and development of multi tier web services
- Experience partnering with product and program management teams
- - Basic knowledge of ML

Preferred Qualifications

- Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior leadership to collect requirements, describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy
- Experience in recruiting, hiring, mentoring/coaching and managing teams of Software Engineers to improve their skills, and make them more effective, product software engineers
- Experience in building software that include ML to bring customer value
