Position Overview

At Autodesk, we are revolutionising how people design and create, empowering them to imagine, design, and make a better world. We believe in the power of automation and cutting-edge technology to drive innovation. If you're ready to be part of a fast-paced environment that values resilience, uptime, and empowering development teams, join our Developer Enablement Organization.

We are seeking a Senior Engineering Manager to lead a team focused on Self-Service Observability Platform Development. This role includes leveraging UCP and Beacon frameworks in Backstage while managing platform engineering for Catchpoint, Dynatrace, Splunk, Cribl, BigPanda, and LogicMonitor. You'll play a key role in building, maintaining, and supporting Autodesk's next-generation Observability ecosystem—enabling autonomy, innovation, and world-class developer experiences.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, manage, and mentor a team of driven engineers building self-service Observability features and platform tools

  • Define the technical roadmap and strategy for integrating UCP, Beacon (Backstage), and other Observability solutions into Autodesk's overall developer experience

  • Platform Development & Automation

  • Oversee architecture and hands-on implementation of self-service Observability portals and services, with a focus on automation, scalability, and developer satisfaction

  • Identify and execute opportunities to reduce operational overhead through advanced tooling and frameworks

  • Design and implement AI-powered bots for observability automation, alert management, and self-healing systems

  • Develop and maintain self-service portals and tools that empower developers to implement observability best practices without bottleneck

  • Collaboration & Stakeholder Management

  • Partner with architects, product owners, and cross-functional teams (globally dispersed) to align the Observability platform strategy with overall Autodesk roadmaps

  • Provide consistent feedback to senior management and ensure transparent communication of milestones, risks, and accomplishments

  • Provide consulting support to application teams on implementing observability best practices across Autodesk's ecosystem

  • Foster a high-performance, inclusive culture that values continuous learning, experimentation, and customer-centric thinking

  • Build a collaborative environment where innovation thrives and knowledge sharing is encouraged

  • Advocate for DevOps best practices, including CI/CD, infrastructure as code, container orchestration, and cloud-native design

  • Participate in code reviews, architectural discussions, and tool evaluations to guide engineering decisions

  • Ensure the observability platforms maintain industry-leading standards for performance, reliability, and security

Minimum Qualifications

  • Industry Experience: 10+ years of relevant experience in software/platform engineering, with at least 5 years in a technical leadership role and 5 years of people management

  • Platform & Observability Expertise: Demonstrated success in designing or managing Observability platforms (e.g., Splunk, Dynatrace, or similar)

  • Cloud & Automation: Hands-on experience with AWS (or other major cloud providers), container technologies (Docker, Kubernetes/ECS), and infrastructure as code (Terraform, CloudFormation, etc.)

  • Programming Skills: Proficiency in Python, Go, Java, or similar languages

  • Collaboration: Proven ability to work with globally distributed teams and multiple stakeholders, driving alignment and delivering impactful outcomes

  • Experience building and maintaining developer platforms and self-service portals

  • Knowledge of modern CI/CD practices and tooling, including Jenkins and GitHub

  • Understanding of microservices architecture and distributed systems monitoring

  • Knowledge of data science pipelines, feature engineering, and model evaluation

  • Experience with AIOps and implementing intelligent alerting systems, leveraging machine learning for alert correlation and noise reduction

  • AI-powered bot design and implementation for observability automation, alert management, and self-healing systems, incorporating natural language processing (NLP) and conversational AI

  • Experience with real-time data streaming and processing for AI-driven observability

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with AI/ML technologies for operations automation and anomaly detection. Proficiency with AI/ML frameworks and libraries (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch, scikit-learn). Experience with Backstage or comparable internal developer portal solutions is a strong plus

  • Hands-on experience implementing and managing Backstage developer portals

  • Experience with chatbot development and integration for operational support

  • Deep expertise with multiple observability platforms (Catchpoint, Dynatrace, Splunk, Cribl, BigPanda, and LogicMonitor)

  • Experience with AIOps and implementing intelligent alerting systems

  • Background in developing self-service developer tools and automation platforms

  • Experience with OpenTelemetry and cloud-native observability patterns

  • Experience with cloud-based machine learning platforms

The Ideal Candidate

  • Both a strategic thinker and hands-on technical leader who can balance long-term vision with day-to-day execution

  • Possesses a deep understanding of developer experience and how observability fits into the modern software development lifecycle

  • Has a track record of building and leading high-performing engineering teams

  • Demonstrates excellent communication skills with the ability to translate complex technical concepts to various audiences

  • Is passionate about automation, self-service, and using technology to make developers' lives easier
