Job Description
Summary
This application is for a 12-week internship role from June - August 2024. Resume review begins in January 2024.
The Data Office of Biogen Digital Health generates tools, technologies and techniques that connect the patient journey living with complex disease in real world setting to scientific knowledge production, clinical improvement, and discovery processes and practices. We implement new technologies, design with the end user in mind, and assess how to best bridge gaps between our ability “to measure” and “to know”. We are seeking Machine Learning Engineers to work alongside clinical informaticists, data scientists, software developers, science and medical leaders, and platform architects.
Position Description
As an intern, you will work to develop and implement solutions to accelerate our ability to define, describe, enhance, and steward data throughout the scientific and engineering lifecycle. You will join Agile Scrum teams and work alongside subject matter experts in fields like Real World Data, Distributed Clinical Trials, and ML Ops for Biomedical Image and Instrumentation Pipelines:
You will take end-to-end ownership of at least one data product or application feature during their internship, including understanding the data generated to enable the product or feature, working with cloud-based distributed computing platforms to enable the product or feature, and understanding how the software development lifecycle intersects with both the regulatory lifecycle and the scientific method.
Deliverables during this internship will include:
Code (functions, utilities, and application code)
Architecture
Design documents
Example projects may include:
Implementing best practices for hyperscale data management from distributed sensors
Generating APIs for ML Ops infrastructure for radiomics and image processing
Evaluating and managing methods to assess and prevent algorithmic bias across the care and discovery journey
Qualifications
Qualifications:
Candidates should have the following qualifications
Fluency in Python, SQL, and version control systems
Experience working/implementing supervised and unsupervised machine learning techniques on columnar data
Interest in regulated processed for biomedical discovery
Familiarity with cloud computing and distributed computing frameworks
Ideal candidates will also have interest or experience with:
Data privacy, stewardship, and governance frameworks
Statistical signal processing experience
Clinical informatics experience or experience dealing with data from experimental or clinical settings
To participate in the Biogen Internship Program, students must meet the following eligibility criteria:
Legal authorization to work in the U.S.
At least 18 years of age prior to the scheduled start date
Be currently enrolled in an accredited college or university
Education
Master’s or above in Computer Science, Mathematics, Clinical Informatics, or Data Science.
