Job Description: 

We are seeking a Engineering Manager (m/f/x) to join our team of innovators. In this role, you will be at the forefront of developing groundbreaking solutions that solve real-world problems. You'll be responsible for leading and growing a high-performing team focused on our predictive maintenance system for railway switches, ensuring the team delivers to the product roadmap, controlling the technical integrity of our solution and fostering innovative ideas.  The role allows you to show your leadership skills, but also allows space for individual contributions to our technical designs and codebase.You will work alongside a team of experts who are committed to pushing the boundaries of what's possible and driving innovation forward. Your Impact:

Technical Delivery:

  • Own the domain's technical design and architecture, collaborating with key stakeholders for continuous improvement
  • Collaborate with Product Managers on delivering the product roadmap, translating product vision into actionable plans for your team
  • Craft and maintain the domain's technical roadmap, outlining the strategic direction for future development, and ensure alignment with key stakeholders
  • Manage technical delivery through all stages of SDLC
  • Foster a culture of high-performance, implementing efficient team working practices
  • Contribute directly to technical delivery, demonstrating your expertise and leading by example on software engineering and data science tasks

Financial Management:

  • Work with our Finance department to build and maintain the annual team budget, managing both staff and operational expenses
  • Control and optimise cloud and domain-specific tooling costs across pre-production and production environments

Team Leadership:

  • Effectively lead your cross-functional team, fostering growth and development
  • Keep the team informed through regular company and leadership updates
  • Conduct regular 1:1 meetings to provide coaching, address concerns, and support individual career development
  • Manage performance reviews and pay adjustments according to the company framework
  • Prioritise team health, building a strong and collaborative team environment

To be successful in this role, you’ll need to have:

  • Computer Science or other STEM background, with a minimum 8+ years of experience as a software engineer (3+ years as a lead), ideally with experience in:
    • Python, Java, React, Terraform
    • Cloud services (e.g. AWS Lambdas, DynamoDB, EventBridge, Databricks)
    • Building scalable architectures (IoT device and data management are a bonus)
  • Exposure to Data Science and Machine Learning are advantageous
  • Proven track record of leading and motivating high-performing engineering teams
  • Demonstrated ability to translate technical vision into actionable plans and deliver results
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills
  • Financial acumen with experience in budget management
  • Experience fostering a positive and healthy team environment
