Project Title: Understanding and Projecting Natural Hazards That Endanger Food Production in Southeast Asia [NEA 13/24 WJY]

Project Introduction: This research enhances food security in Southeast Asia by assessing climate-driven natural hazards' impact on agriculture and supporting evidence-based decision-making. It constructs a historical reanalysis dataset of major hazards (floods, heatwaves, wildfires) to identify vulnerability hotspots and assess agricultural impacts. A physics-informed machine-learning model quantifies these hazards' effects on food production, focusing on rice and vegetables. Additionally, a pseudo-global warming (PGW) framework projects future hazard impacts under climate change scenarios. The findings aid policy development for climate resilience, helping Singapore adapt its food supply strategy, while regional collaboration with research institutions, agricultural organizations, and insurers may influence broader policy changes.
