Job description

We are seeking a talented Data Engineer with a strong bias towards action to join us. If you have been sailing in Data Tooling, Data Collection, and Cloud Infrastructure for the past 3+ years, we’ve got the right job for you!

In this role, you will be contributing to our Data Engineering/Data Ops topics and work closely with the Data team as well as Engineering teams.

The Data team is currently composed of five Analytics Engineers and one Data Engineer. At Akeneo, Data Engineers look after our Data Platform, allowing Analytics Engineers to collect, transform, expose, and leverage our data.

Today our data stack is composed of Google Cloud Platform (GCP), dbt, Airbyte, Dagster, Metabase, Amplitude, and Segment. Additionally, company-wide tools include CircleCI, GitHub, Terraform, and Datadog.

Responsibilities

Technical Excellence 

Design and implement solutions for Data Processing and Cloud Infrastructure with occasional guidance. Apply best-in-class development practices while managing costs and complexity.

Ex: Design and implement an orchestrator to automate data pipelines. Ex:Terraform our GCP project. Ex: Build a robust framework to manage data access efficiently and secure our sensitive data.

Collaborative Impact 

Write clean, maintainable, and efficient code. Troubleshoot, debug, and optimize our data platform performance.

Ex: Contribute to improving our processes and ways of working. Ex: Improve a test on a legacy module to increase team confidence in making changes and prevent irrelevant alerts.

Enablement

Support and empower other Data team members to work more efficiently and effectively. Foster a data culture based on strong software craftsmanship.
Ex: Pair with Analytics Engineers on data collection tasks. Ex: Explain data engineering and/or software development concepts pedagogically to other Data team members.

Qualifications

Experience

You have a strong track record in designing and building end-to-end data platforms—from Data Ingestion to Data Visualization. You have been using data and software development tools/languages extensively such as Airbyte, DataStream, Debezium, Google Cloud Workflows, Terraform, CloudFormation, BigQuery, Snowflake, Redshift, GCP, AWS, Airflow, Dagster, Google Analytics, Postgres, dbt, or Dataform.

Technical Expertise

You possess in-depth knowledge of data best practices as well as software development principles. You are fluent in scripting languages such as Python or Shell. You can write advanced SQL queries with your eyes closed. You know Linux environments and have already containerized and orchestrated applications with Docker and Kubernetes.

Communication Skills

You can effectively communicate complex technical concepts to stakeholders not familiar with your expertise and work very well within a diverse team.

Adaptability

You thrive in a fast-paced, impact-focused environment and can handle uncertainties and changing requirements.

Mentoring Skills

You have demonstrated that you can mentor and grow others in previous roles, guiding less experienced colleagues through challenges so they can deliver impact.
